Description
A speculative map of Serina, the wold of birds, 295 Million years post establishment.
The hothouse age has ended, Volcanism and plate tectonics are extinct, and beacuse of that, the magnetic field of Serina is weakening, and thus the athmosphere is starting to get stripped away, and the climate is getting drier, colder and more unpredictable, temperature fluctuations increase.
What we know:
Most Trilliontree islands have fused to a few large islands
Sea levels are falling again
The Nightforest of the polar basin is gone, and forest animal have to migrate south with the remnant forests
The great blue saltlake has turned into an unhospitable saltswamp
The longdark swamp has tuned into the boreal swamp a cold, but productive biome with short summers and cold winters.
The mainland is deforested and intead cobvered with grasslands.
The coalseam lakes have dried up at least partially and have truend into low altitude regions which are wetter than their surroundings and thus still support forests.
Sapience reemegres on serinaustra, descendants of scroungers and bogglebirds have bceome sophonts.
The rest is speculation, who knows how bad the situation on serina is by this time?
Maybe the meridian islands reemerge once more and support some life before conditions get too bad?
And maybe the fissures left from the burnt coalseams act as low altitude bridges to connect the remaining forests? These fissures can be as much as 2km deep and by 295 mpe they might still contain some water. So forrest animals can still travel along those fissures.
Legend:
Deep sea: water is too deep for sunlight to reach the bottom, so there are no algae growing on the sea floor
Shallow waters: shallow enouht to let sunliught reach the bottom, so expcet algae to grow on the sea floor
Tundra:basically cold, arid and deforested regions, seamlessly transition into grassland
Grasslands/Steppes:deforested regions, arid and they likely have intense temperature swings, some of these regions might actually not be real grassland, but desserts
Taiga:Forest with cold winters
Broadleafed forests: these forests have climates ranging from temperate to tropical
Saltpan:The remant of a dried up saltlake, this regions is mostly inhospitable
I used this map as a reference:sites.google.com/site/worldofsβ¦
This is speculations as to how serina would look like if sea leves dropped and forests declined again.
