Of course the Woodcrafters and the Social gravediggers knew of the ice age, and saw the forests succumb to the cold fo the mid ultimocene ice age. And while they could not stop the ice age, they weren´t completely powerless, at least they could save a few species. The windbreaks they had constructed together could shelter countless species of plants, which by now could no longer survive in the wild.

Amongst these were of course the broad-leafed sunflower decendant trees, now just stunted shrubs even inside the warm windbreaks, which were once amongst the meain foood source of the woodcrafters. And severeal species of herbs and shrubs edible to the woodcrafters.

But the woodcrafterd did not only preserve edible species. They also cultivated stunted towertrees from the towertree taiga, which was succumbing to the cold too.

Amd they provided non seraph Archangels with warm places where their pupa (which they did not brood on, unlike the seraphs) could still survive. (Nonetheless the non seraph archangels would struggle to survive even with help, their polulations declined to just a few thousand, because they needed plenty of grass to feed on, which was getting sparser, and when serinacrta experienced winter, they could not fly to seiraustra to feed on grasses there, beacuse it was completely glaciated by now. Therefore they had to stay on serinacta and feed on grasses there.)

The reason for doing this is simple, Gravediggers and Woodcrafters revere Nature and want to protect it, even if they do not gain practial use of it (but it certainly has sentimental value to them), they would carry this sentiment on for million years to come, they saw themselves as the stewards of nature and would eventually call themsleves the sea stewards, as they would live near the sea or even inside it, where nearly all their food (meat or plant matter) would come from.
