(Warning, this is is wildly speculative and probably wildly inaccurate!)

Five thousand years have passed.

This is a very long time span.

On earth five millennia were enough to go from early civilizations to the world we know today.

The Woodcrafters and Social Gravediggers have lived together for 13 Millenia by now!

The Woodcrafters have discovered agriculture and the plough in the first century upon arrival at the seashore.

Then have discovered metallurgy which they use for more durable ploughs.

And they have domesticated the Armox, which now survives mostly on grass, as bushes are rare.

The armox´s role is similar to that of an elephant, the social gravediggers don’t eat their meat, they are used to pull ploughs, and other than that they can graze in herds on the green pastures. They are treated well. The Antlear people keep few of them, as they are large and need much grass to be maintained, so villages exchange armox every few cycles(=years) to prevent inbreeding.

Compared to wild Armox the domestic armox has a calmer temperament, and is very gentle. Despite this, they are still able to defend themselves well, and if ever their young were threatened, they would protect them just as well as wild armox would.

The conditions for agriculture are poor as the climate is subpolar oceanic (cool around the year, almost no seasonal differences, much rainfall, regular nightly frost, days are cool) (according to the Köppen climate classification), agriculture is very difficult, as the crops grow very slowly, and have to be frost resistant.

The Woodcrafters and Social Gravediggers have lived together in peace for all these millennia, and have spread all across the southern coasts of serinarcta, but soon suprising events in the ocean will disturb their peace…
