Description Well, I've been burnt out beyond belief for weeks now, and only having delivered a gigantically complicated project on time has saved me from a complete breakdown.  Nevertheless! I have persevered, and in between, though unable to do an actual page, I did post this little bit from the Commandoverse, the first aircraft to get a data card.

This is the FW-29 Condor, an aircraft manufactured by OVC/Northrop, and the universe's equivalent to the A-10 Thunderbolt-II.  It's a low-radar-observable flying wing used for ground-attack missions and it's seriously dangerous.  It flies in low, slow, and drops massive amounts of firepower on the enemies of the United Nations Alliance.

Okay so this has replaced the A-10. I'm curious what other planes, copters and VTOLs have been replaced.

With the wing tip drop and general shape, it looks a bit like jet powered version of the Northrop XP-56 Black Bullet.  BTW, the A-10's nickname is the Thunderbolt II, not the Lightning II.  The F-35's nickname is the Lightning II.

Yeah I just corrected the typo. Lazy me!

The Black Bullet is a favorite of mine and the similarity is intentional! It’s a plane that features heavily in a comic I’ve been working up called Lift.

Well, that explains the similarity.  LOL.

It reminds me quite a lot of the AW52 flying wing.

You know, I'd been so interested in the Northrop wing designs that I hadn't noticed the similarity to the Armstrong-Whitworth design.  But you're actually quite right!

Ah, ah. I would have never even noticed the similarity myself had I not played BF1942 before seeing your art. xD

Fantastic looking bird, but whats an A-10 Lightning II?

I meant the Fairchild-Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II. I'm afraid I called it by the wrong name. The U.S.-made "Tank Buster" and world's premiere close air support aircraft.

Oh, I figured it was another fictional aircraft of yours. Thanks for clearing that up though.

The A-10 was actually designed around the 30 mm GAU-8/A Avenger autocannon .  If you look at the A-10 from the nose, you'll notice that the nose gear is actually offset from center.  This is because the cannon is so huge and so low in the fuselage that the nose gear won't fit in the nose properly unless it's offset.  If you're interested in learning more about the A-10, here is a great website about it:  en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairchil… . The A-10 is my favorite non-fighter a/c.

It looks a lot like a late WWII German warplane

It's a souped-up, jet-powered Northrop N-1M Flying Wing.  I'm a big fan of the flying wing typology - it's retro, yet futuristic at the same time.

Interesting viewpoint I guess it also makes it  stealthier on one axis

This was inspired and base on the Nazi German flying wing plane ( fav.me/d2g9vbk ) from the movie, "Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark" isn't it? Because I know this particular design anywhere, the only real difference between this aircraft and the one from the movie. Is the Condor is jet powered and uses modern technology and aircraft designs, while the other one is push propeller-driven and uses WWII-era technology and aircraft designs.  =3

Actually, it's a souped-up, modernized Northrop N-1M.  But flying wings do tend to take on rather similar appearances after a while.

Looks a lot like the early HO 229, N-1M or N-9M's.

MrAverage In reply to goldenavatar [2014-10-01 17:17:38 +0000 UTC]

N1M is the main inspirado for this one! I gave it more control surfaces, a broader structure, a more compact cockpit and turned down the wing tips, but it's there nonetheless.

Thanks, man! Like Jack Northrop himself, I'm a huge fan of the Flying Wing. It just screams "modern," even if it's never really made it aside from the B2.
