beautiful shot. i am an infantryman stationed in Washington DC, i often volunteer for firing party detail at Arlington National Cemetery. no matter how many times i've done it, and even when i'm the one firing the 21 gun salutes, the shots still ring right through you. beautiful shot.

Unfortunately I had to attend several memorial services in my 6 months in Afghanistan and it never gets any easier... Did you see the movie Kevin Bacon did? Taking Chance

When I was in we didn't sustain any casualties during Desert Storm, unfortunately what we are into is nothing like that mission. I just saw where the Marines are actually bringing tanks in because the IED problem is that bad.

That was a "real moving" movie. I will find it and own it yet.

Adios Amigo.

I understand... I was in Iraq this summer and fall working with young Marines like your boyfriend. I hope to get to Afhganistan next year to do the same. Tell him thank you and Semper Fi.

It's so sad to loose loved ones like that, though. I hope to never have to see the marines at a funeral!..Preferably, I'd like to never go to a funeral...

He just returned to Camp Pendleton on the 25 of Feb after his leave. It sucks watching them go..

On the upside, we went to the VA to thank the veterans and had a little party for them. I know I'm a girl and it's in our job description to love men in uniform, but...wow. Everyone agreed that the marines had the best uniforms. (;

Thank you for your service!

Sorry for the delayed response... I agree whole 100% with you. I watch these young Marines charge into the unknown and you just know in your heart that they all won't be returning.

My pleasure to serve.

I have no idea how to reply to that. That was so deep and emotional...I hope (like all the other families) that nothing happens to my marine.

Thank you for taking the time to speak with me. I appreciate it.

my pleasure...we are all family. Saw a Marine at a bar last night and called him over and bought him a beer.

Please keep me posted on how things are going. I may be heading over that way myself again this year...

I've learned that the Coast Guards around here are very rude, or at least the ones I've seen. One game my skunk a REALLY dirty look and seemed to be insulted by her being at the pet store. At the St. Patty's parade, I tried to say hi to them, I wanted to thank them for their work (Not to mention get a close look at the awesome truck they were using in the parade...not a 7ton...not sure what it was.), and they all just ignored me or gave me a dirty look. That made me loose respect for the Army; Coast Guard. :/ Or at least the ones that live/work around here. Gr.

I'll keep you posted!

I had the chance to go to the VA with my Boyfriend's mom today, but I slept through it and didn't get the invite email until after I woke up which was too late. I feel kinda bad now. I may not be a fan of children or old people (Yea, I'm a teen. ), but veterans are a whole new category of awesome.

DOn't let a few give the rest a band name... Coast Guard do an important job but I have never dealt with them personally. I have several good freinds that were in the Army, real good guys. There were all SPEC OPS so they are the cream of the crop. We are all fighting for the same in the end... so don't forget that. I was "anti" Army when I was a young Marine but now that I am older I respect that they serve just as I did, they just took the easier road!

Have a great weekend...

I'm not Anti-Army, just Anti-Army-Jerks. I have great respect for anyone in the Military. You/They all do something I'd never be able to do. I watched a show on Marine Boot Camp and have no idea how anyone does that. William said "the physical stuff? yea, that's fun!" I'm active, but I'll just stick with airsoft and paintball...I'm an artist; lover not a fighter.

I know a few great people in the Army though. I saw first hand what happened when someone was deployed. (I babysat his kids). His wife cheated on him, of course he found out. It was sad, and not fair to the children. He deserved better than her anyway. That's for sure...Sweet kids though.

Wow, that's an awesome picture. Sad thing it had to be taken, but still awesome. My dad was in the Marines for 13 years, most of my life, and I would go in if it weren't for the fact that he won't let me. So I have a lot of respect for anyone in the military, especially the Marines. He was in Desert Storm too, when I was just a baby.

Semper Fi. I those who put their lives on the line like the Marines.

Amazing picture!

I've been to a Marine funeral before. A good HS friend of mine was killed in Kuwait during training. My husband and I were just friends at the time, but we went to the funeral together and he wore his blues. I told him right then and there that James' funeral better be the ONLY Marine funeral I ever have to go to! He said it would be. We have been through 2 deployments now, so ... so far so good.

Thank you, I was in Kuwait during Desert Storm 1. However there is no comparison to what is happening now... Thank you for supporting your husband and please tell him in spite of what is on TV and in the media many of us salute him!

Also, remind him to duck, it is not a bad thing.

Oooo...I love the Marine uniform! they're tryin' to redo ours (I'm Air Force) They use M16s for the Firing Party? 0.o We use M14s for ours. We have an Active Duty funeral comming up next week. I think I'm on that detail.

Anyways...awesome image! great colors with their uniforms and the trees in the back! Great shot!
