I got sick again and stayed up until 3:30 in the morning drawing this to feel better, but as a result, I missed calculus and physics class the following morning... TOTALLY WORTH IT ANYWAY!
I was re-watching this movie yesterday, and applying my recently acquired knowledge on the novel, I put together so many concepts I've never recognized before. For the fun of it, I placed in what I would've said to the eliminated children if I were Johnny Depp's version of Willy Wonka.

1. "Where's my song?" <--- In the 2005 movie, Augustus Gloop's musical number is one of the most grand in scale, featuring the most dynamic visual shots and Oompa Loompa choreography. I thought it'd be funny that Augustus would admit his weight problem, rather than struggle around in the pipe and exclaiming "I'm stuck! Help me!" This scene is supposed to depict Wonka's impatience for the Oompa Loompa's wonderful songs, although he does love watching fate fall upon the naughty children.

2. "Ah-ha! I see him!" <--- Mike Teavee only shrinks to a few inches in height and ends up trapped inside the television. I always wondered what would happen if something went wrong and he shrunk so small, a magnifying glass was needed. Of course, if Wonka grabbed one to find little Mike, he'd spontaneously burst into flames. Of course, Mike's dad is oblivious, as usual.

3. "(Treat time!)" <--- Veruca Salt's elimination is drastically different in the 2005 movie compared to the 1971 one. She becomes entranced by these cute squirrels opening walnuts, rather than wanting a goose's golden egg for herself. I think the adorable fuzzy rodent component is much more believable for her rotten personality than a golden egg. I thought it would've been hilarious if Wonka trained his squirrels to maul Veruca instead of strap her down and "check if she was a bad nut". In my opinion, that was too horrible of a pun. Of course, the squirrels get treats for their incredible training, and Wonka's keys unlock the gate and the safe that contains the treats.

4. "I can give you another!" <--- I had a completely new perspective of Violet Beauregarde when I read excerpts of the novel, which led to a theory. The purpose of the three-course chewing gum meal was to eliminate cooking (along with a lot of hassle and time over finding a meal). One's daily nutritional needs would be fulfilled with one simple stick, and they would consume pure products in gum form, and become full after intake. The gum's purpose is to fill the stomach for the day in mere minutes. My theory, therefore, is that Wonka overemphasizes desserts (chocolate, candy, pies, ice cream, etc.) so the gum goes wrong at the blueberry pie because he coded it to fill the entire body rather than just the stomach. The book gives the impression that Violet chews herself into a giant blueberry, which would mean that the moment she allowed herself to become completely blue, she no longer needed to continue chewing. Her body would swell into a gigantic blueberry at that point, even if she spat it out. In the film, it is seen that once she starts filling with juice, she's no longer chewing. Theories aside, I thought it'd be funny if Wonka offered her another one. This panel was also a great opportunity to feature the remaining parents that weren't shown previously.

This comic was drawn in ink and colored with copic markers, so it's a little messy. It was also drawn late at night, so it isn't the best comic I've made. I really didn't put that much effort into it.
