Description So, after talking about microwave cakes with , I just needed to make my favorite, adapted version. This time, I added blueberries, too! Maaaaaan, this cake is fantastic! And so quick to make. All you need is five minutes of time!
Soooo, here's the recipe:

4 tbsp flour
4 tbsp sugar
3 tbsp cocoa (I love dark chocolate, if you like it sweeter, use 2 tbsp)
1 egg
3 tbsp milk
3 tbsp melted butter
1 tbsp maple syrup
2 tbsp chocolate chips
2 tbsp blueberries (I used frozen blueberries)

Stir all ingredients together well, fill into one large cup or two smaller cups or wide glasses (I used two whiskey glasses), the cup/glass should be a little over half way filled.
Microwave for about three and a half minutes.

And there you go, quick and delicious chocolate cake! The most dangerous thing about this recipe is: chocolate cake is now only five minutes away!

I tried out a few days ago, and it was delicious!
I had to replace some of the ingredients: the only fruit I had at home was dried apricots, and instead of maple sirup (it's not easy to get some here) I used a little bit of liqueur (it contains honey, cinnamon, vanilla and clove).
Thanks for sharing the recipe

You could leave the fruit and chocolate chips out if you like, they don't alter the recipe and are just an addition.
I'm glad you liked the cake!

I wanted some fruit in the cake, it goes well with the chocolate.
I think I'll try to make it with other fruits too

Oh my goodness - this is dangerous stuff
The oven part of my gas stove no longer works and I can't afford to fix it / buy a new one. My microwave works though...
Now what could I substitute for the chocolate (which doesn't agree with me) - maybe ground almonds
Not tonight though. I've already eaten my dinner and I'm too tired after spending most of the past three days cutting brambles and dead trees in my now slightly less overgrrown garden.
I'll let you know how it turns out

MyntKat In reply to Hippopottermiss [2010-04-19 21:37:37 +0000 UTC]

Hmm... you could just leave it out and add some vanilla extract, you might get a nice angel food type cake? Not sure if it'll work though, I've only ever seen it with chocolate cakes. Ground nuts is a great idea, too, that might actually work... you'll have to try around a bit.
Let me know what substitute you come up with!

I'll have to try this!

Coincidentally, I was searching through my garage the other day and came across an old microwave cookbook from 1981 entitled Microwave Cooking from Litton . I think the book came with a Litton microwave and Litton accessories, but those have apparently been lost to time.

But not the book!

This thing's packed full of tips and tricks and techniques and all sorts of interesting info plus oodles of recipes.

So I sense many experiments in my future.

Oh boy! Beaker will be thrilled!

Usually I don't like cooking with the microwave, but this is a huge exception.

senoritafish In reply to MyntKat [2010-04-23 23:51:26 +0000 UTC]

You don't know how dangerous. I only made one batch just to try it out and had 3 kids and one father seriously unhappy there was only a few bites each to start out with. It might've gotten violent. Nummy!

I used some chopped up frozen strawberries as we didn't have any blueberries. Good, but I think the blueberries would probably stand up to the chocolate a little better.

MyntKat In reply to senoritafish [2010-04-24 00:14:45 +0000 UTC]

Good thing it's a quick recipe though, so violent fights shouldn't last for too long.

I'd love to try it with strawberries. You could leave the fruit out completely if you don't have any, it tastes great without it, too. Or try it with some white chocolate chips instead of the semi-sweet ones, or maybe even butterscotch chips, so many possibilities!

The 10-year-old is impatient and wants more, so he's out in the kitchen making some more right now.

3 and a half minutes was too long for mine, so they were a bit dry. Methinks 2-3 minutes shall do it better next time

I'm thinking of trying it with some crushed almonds as well

But thanks so much for this

MyntKat In reply to Loucife [2010-04-24 14:48:35 +0000 UTC]

It depends on the power of your microwave, if it's a newer one, less is better, yes.

Loucife In reply to MyntKat [2010-04-25 01:42:20 +0000 UTC]
