Description
A portrait I did a few years ago. I just found it. It was in color so I scanned and made it black and white... and it's much nicer this way. It is completely analog.Related content

A pause for the trumpet,
the interrogative face of
an original person,
a picture which touch
profound, thoughtfully.
Great portrait of an artist, Myrna!

I was a pretty good trumpet player in school They nicknamed me a hyphenated version of my last name and that of Maynard Ferguson

I guess you must have been really good to be called by one of the names most revered in trumpeting! Did you see in my journal I got photos of him at a concert I went to a few years ago. He was still playing his ass off.. and was soooo entertaining!

Oh yeah, I went to a couple of his concerts years ago One was a 1.5 hour schedualled concert and he gave us 3 hours!!
I think Maynard was a hero of every high school trumpet player.
Yeah, I could play the upper register
...especially in marching band, jazz band etc. So much so that the conductor was always yelling at the flute section for being out of tune!
The high points of my youth were playing solos like Feelings and MacArthur Park, Maynard style, at half time.

Wow, you must have been really good! Maynard influenced many generations of trumpet players. I know a lot of them personally. (now I know one more).
There is nothing like the high soaring of trumpets above the rest of the band, is there!

My husband and i have a joke (sort of a joke) that the trumpet players are always the ones who are the most sexually active in the bands...or at leat would like to be. LOL

My husband says they come in second among the ladies. And I have noticed that to be true ...unless there is a singer... and that trumps all.

Myrna,
I missed this one on my earlier passes through your gallery. It really is superb, with the way the lighting captures the quiet intensity.

I've actually saved this, in my deviation box, since you posted it. And i never really knew what to say, but it kinda gave me that feeling of passing someone on the street and it being like . Hehe, which is so strange, i guess because it's a photograph and especially in our society, whole pure emotions regarding art and people that are based on just intuition don't flow too well when we become consumed by so many other things. And i have been. Maybe after years of finally guessing i just know what appeals to me, it I think my favorite part was his eyes and the sheet music in the back. I'm so glad i finally commented, especially after my photography classes and a failed relationship this year i am finally confident in what i see (inside and out) . I had a terrrrrrible last year i failed my first semester of college, so it's nice to go back full circle to this picture that i was searching the words for.
I'm sure this sounds silly, but thank you. And it's 3 in the morning i should be to bed by now

You are welcome, my dear. I know the feelings you are talking about and can empathize.
Life has ups and downs and all arounds. Everyone has them... even when it looks like they are living a golden life. You must trust me on this. Good times for you will be there too.... rest well and have a lovely and hopeful New Years eve... and I suspect that 2006 will be amazing.
My motto for 2006 is "give them somthing to talk about".... meaning something that amazes and astounds and surprises... something expansive and wonderful that is shocking (or almost so) to others.

Thanks for the comment... yes, musicians often have a rough go of it. Not easy to earn a living now... except for a few at the top...and it's hard work to learn to play well... very very hard work and lots of devotion.
Your gallery is very nice... thanks for visiting mine!
