Description
I photographed an original artwork by my friend, Dan Oberschulte. (he doesn't have a web site)The work is in clay ( I believe) and is like a mask. It's a beautiful piece in it's own right. He hangs it outside in his garden. I've altered it to be my own artwork but the basic form of the face and body is the there.
Color is altered and textures added. I've also cropped his original, which is large and in a sort of box with a brick below... a real brick.

wonderful, really wonderful. I haven't been on DA much the past week because I am busy getting 240 kids working on art for a First NAtions art show that my school is dong. Seeing this piece has really given me ideas on something one the the classes can do. I thank you in advance for the inspiration.

I love the post processing you did here. Something so bone chilling about the way her lower jaw is missing and the way her expression gives no hint to whether or not she realizes it. Spooky piece.

Oh, thanks. I just sent the artist a copy of it and he loves it too! He's so generous to let me do things with his work.

..and her sadness overpowered her and soon became her, there was no difference between herself and the darkness, and one day she simply became the darkness, forever to dwell, or die within the depths of sadness...

Thanks so much. I happen to have a lot of down time right now to work on this. I'll probably do more. It's how I feel right now.

I think he occasionally visits my site. But he's a funny guy and doesn't like computers at all! He's pretty cool to let me mess with his creations as I do.

The mask-like quality is very powerful, but it's the eyes that really get me. A kind of knowing mixed with sadness in those eyes. It must have been interesting adding your own textures to another artist's work.

Thanks. I'm lucky he doesn't mind if I photograph his work. He is a man you'd probably like and if you didn't have a significant other, I'd be tempted to introduce you. He just split with a long time 'girlfriend'. I'm always a bit odd on just using his work, but on the other hand, he seems to enjoy the cards I sent with the altered work. Mainly he is a painter but does various sculptures and such as well.

Well, I don't have a significant other, but if he just split with a longtime gf, then he's probably bouncing off the walls. At least, that's how I am after a big split up. Takes a while. Maybe men are different. He's probably pretty easygoing if he doesn't mind you altering his work. That's very trusting too. I need to make some friends who are artists --- the guys at Viewpoint don't know quite what to make of me and my porno-ish flowers. Many of them are more engineers than artists -- they just love to talk about ps algorithms. Some do get it though. Guess I should get to know them better.

He did just split with her in about October. They'd had a very different relationship anyway. She lives in Chicago and he lives up here in Northern Michigan. They'd get together a lot and travel to exotic places especially during the winter. I suspect she wanted to get married (she was a bit younger than he) and really wanted that. He has NEVER been married... uh oh... I really love hanging around him. He's quiet and gentle and capable. He's always earned his living painting and selling antiques. Went to school with my husband... that's how I met him.
Oh well, geographically not that good a choice for you.

Geography is a genuine problem in relationships. Not insurmountable, but a problem nonetheless. He sounds like a nice guy -- he'll find someone, or maybe he and his ex-gf will find they really want to get back together. Thanks for that matchmaker thought, though. It shows a generous heart at work.

I only think like that with people I really really like and so know they would probably like each other.

I once fixed up two people who ended up marrying, and I was overcome with such a sense of responsibility. It was really crazy. They did okay for about 10 years, but when I saw the wife again (shortly before I left L.A.), the relationship seemed to be circling the drain. Maybe they were able to salvage it . I've completely lost touch with her, so probably I'll never know. I'm pleased to be in the group of people you would consider "matching." Thank you for that.
