I rarely post street work I do . . .. mostly because others are much better at it than I am. But I really like this particular shot.Took the Metro from Long Beach to Staples Center and because of work on the tracks we had to change to a bus for part of the ride.

O crap those expressions in that bus are something else. I think this shot really speaks about public transit in Los Angeles ... It's a drag. Great shot.

It is almost exclusively 'poor' people that ride public transport in LA. This city (and the whole Southern Cal area) just doesn't get how to do a metro .. trains, etc. It is needed badly. I drove to the airport with my husband at 6 am today and the traffic was so bad that I thought there had been an accident ahead. There wasn't.. it was just too many cars on the roads.

I think I need to do more. I live in an area of relative affluence and it seems so difficult to do street here. But I'm going to give it a try. I think I want a smaller less obtrusive camera though.

I have the opposite problem, I live in the hood and I can't even walk the street without being sexually harassed or threatened. Carrying a camera around here is a death wish, or at best a theft wish. Maybe if I had a REALLY tiny rangefinder it would work, but I'd still feel so paranoid about the whole thing. Sucks, because it's my favorite genre, too.

On the bus and Metro, going from Long Beach through South Central LA was a tiny bit scary and if I'd been alone, I might have worried. The fact that I'm older with gray hair gives me a little bit of freedom, and especially if I have a smaller camera with me.

If it's anything like it is on TV I bet it was scary! I don't know how it really compares to where I live, but we have a lot of race issues and my neighborhood in general is a little hostile to white people and I'm about as pale as they come. I think my skin color has more to do with the threats than anything, but all the girls around here have to put up with the cat calls and weird guys following you home. It's a shame because the city is so pretty, even in it's current state of decay, and I want to do street photography soo bad. I'm just not brave enough yet, maybe someday I'll be brave like you. That's the goal at least!

What city are you in? Despite all that is said about LA, it's really not hard to go anyplace in the city. It's such a melting pot. There are gang areas I wouldn't want to be in, especially at night but otherwise if you are wearing jeans and a tee, you seem like part of the area.

No, everyone except the guy in back seemed completely apathetic about me and my camera. I did two shots. This was the 2nd one. My observation, overall, is that no one seemed to care any place on the bus or Metro. I did other shots of individuals whose posture and expression did not change at all as I leveled my camera at them. Sometimes I think the fact that I"m older and non-threatening helps.

It was a fascinating trip for me. I don't use public transport around LA. This is the first time EVER. It felt like I was in a foreign country.

Interestingly they had all seen me. I took two shots and this was the second one. But that guy in back was the only one who watched me. The woman with her head leaning on a man was crying about something. She was very very sad.
