I watched the film Prizzi's Honor because of William Hickey and was very fascinated by his performance and the cadaverous makeup that made good use of his distinct features. This was one of those drawings that popped into my head and wouldn't leave me alone until I put it out, but drawing it felt like an unthinking flow-driven process at first before working out the details.

But regardless of what I initially had in mind, this piece ended up being more about shape and color for me. Form vs content is always to be considered, but for me I think form always ends up winning out.

This has also made me realize that I need to draw women more. I always thought that I preferred drawing men but also knew that I worried that when I drew women they just didn't look right. As I learned with backgrounds in my younger years, avoiding drawing them is not the way to get better. I had a lot of fun doing this, so I will draw whoever I feel like without being deterred by the prospect of imperfection.
