I bet you thought the Solar Commune flag was a one-off, right? I'll be doing flags like this, with quick notes on history, to add to the lore of the ACS and the Postmortal Space worldbuilding project.

Flag:
A black background with three red suns arranged in a straight line. Two of them are on a stylized orbit in light blue, with a lowercase Alpha in white in the center of the orbit.

Symbolism:
The black background represents anarchism and space. The red suns represent socialism and the stars of the Centauri system: Alpha A, Alpha B, and Proxima. The light blue orbit is a combination of ACS symbolism and a holdover from the previous flag, for the WEA Provisional Centauri Colony. The Alpha represents both the name of the system's primaries and its status as the first Terragen extrasolar settlement.

Early History:

The WEA Provisional Centauri Colony was founded more than 50 years before the Solar Revolution. For much of its history, the colony was Upload only. While a fairly large genetic archive was sent with the first relativistic vehicle, the use of Amat as a fuel prevented any organic cargo from being included. Early efforts at colonization focused on mining the rings of Proxima C for ice (1), and then forming the ice into radiation shielding for a large Bernal Sphere. As metric engineering technology grew by leaps and bounds, the use of relativistic vehicles with organic passengers became feasible. The first true colony ship, the EMV Bounty of Sol, departed three years and two months local before the Solar Revolution.

Commune of Centauri:

As the Bounty of Sol entered its deceleration phase, news that the ACS had won the Solar Revolution reached the passengers and crew via tightbeam comms. The passengers, mostly biologists and environmental scientists, had remained apolitical throughout the conflict. The crew, however, bore considerable loyalty to the WEA and debated the merits of detaching the hab module and returning with a large asteroid as relativistic payload. Thankfully, the uploads in the initial exploration vehicles convinced the crew to give the new polity the benefit of the doubt. A series of trade negotiations normalized relations between the ACS and Centauri, and by the centennial of the Bounty's arrival most colonists viewed the ACS as a viable, perhaps even better alternative to the WEA. 15 years later, Centauri government began a series of mutualist economic reforms (2) that would eventually lead to full incorporation with the ACS.

Today, the Commune of Centauri is one of the oldest constituents of the ACS. Former crew often participate in a play market, the last remnants of the old corporatist order to be found within 100 LY of Sol.

(1) Proxima Centauri is a flare star, so radiation shielding is doubly necessary.
(2) The most prominent of these, jokingly named "Capitalism with Frontier Characteristics", added tax write-offs for businesses run on a cooperative model or with union support.
