Description
This is my first genuine attempt to draw my Barrows OC using colour pencil, and it's been occupying me all these past three weeks. I'm quite pleased overall since I hardly ever use colour pencil, but there are definitely techniques that I'm yet to master. It's done using colour pencils from a Faber Castel 48 Pack on A3 paper. I'm not sure exactly how long it's taken, but I estimate more than 30 hours, due to the fact that I overlap heaps and all the main colours you see are comprised of at least three separate colours each. Again, I had to tweak the brightness and contrast on Gimp because the wings didn't quite come out on the scan.
You can see that the character holds distinct resemblance to my other OCs and particularly the axe to that of [link] I made the mask simpler because I thought it may stand out more.

This is really just MIND BLOWING. I'm sooooo impressed that you did this with coloured pencils. Really? This is incredible. The amount of detail is crazy! The patterns on the axe and shield? And all the cracks and folds? WOW. This is... no, just wow. Needless to say, I love it!

I agree with *Teefie , the details are outstanding, but then again that's not a surprise
Great job, as usual, the only thing that looks a bit odd is the wing on the left, but that might just be due to the scanning.
As for the colours, you've done great with the contrast for all of the details, but I think there needs to be more depth to the picture as a whole. Parts that are closer to the viewer will obviously be more vivid and clear than parts that are further away. At the moment everything is jumping out at me and I don't know what to look at first.
Other than that I can't see anything wrong with it. You must have a hell of a lot of patience to do stuff like this

Yeah... as usual the scanning always leaves out stuff... :\
Your feedback's much appreciated; I did find the same problem with the depth as well after I finished... I suppose I just got carried away, and wasn't working consistently after breaks.
I'll be trying something a lot simpler next for colour pencils. ~It'd be nice to see you take a shot are doing colour pencils too!

No problem. I get carried away sometimes too, then I look at the whole thing when I'm done and think damn, why didn't I see that before?
I suppose I haven't used colour pencils properly since '08, so it'd take me a while to get used to it again... What should I draw though?

Lol it was just such an obvious suggestion that I thought you were insinuating something
The thing with doing colour pieces of manga, especially FMA, is that there isn't a lot of dynamics for me to work with. You've got all those details in your Barrows characters to make your work interesting. FMA, especially since it's shounen, doesn't have the least amount of depth that can be shown through colour, only lines.
But I don't mind your suggestions. They'd have some merit in the least.

Oh, yes. But I think I'm going to have to improve my colouring skills anyway, even if it's not using pencils. I'm not as good with colour than I am with black and white :/

I suppose I did make it a lot brighter than what I'd expected, but the colours here are pretty much what my original concept had (cloth and wings were always red) but I see you'd like me to make it duller.
Haha, of course you can't always estimate the colour of things just by looking at black and white things.
Thank you for your feedback though!
