This is a really awesome tutorial! Great job bro!
Though I just have one small question, what effect do you use on your colors to be like they are in most of your pics? (if you know what I mean)

I guess you can do this with Photoshop as well, because the effects kind of looks the same.
Or would it look totally different?

This is very helpful and I'll be sure to try this but I suck at layering so its going to be difficult for me. I have one question though. Do my drawings always need solid lines before I color them with gimp? I usually just put them in with out a solid outline.

just curious, you also have to use the noise filter when you do the solid color fill, right? I tried doing that, but my picture just wound up ugly. xp

Hmm very helpful...But I'm still not sure. I do not understand first part about the transparent stuff-and how you make the brushes look like that...

i can answer that. it is best to draw a rough sketch of your character and scan it to your computer. after you have your rough sketch scanned to your computer to gimp, you switch the sketch to grayscale and you add a new layer. next, you use the ink and brush/pencil tools (for the brush/pencil tools, make sure that they are black and not any other color to paint solid lines. for the ink tool, you can just resize the width to a smaller size you desire, and you start at a small corner anywhere on your sketch.). once that's done, you click on the eraser tool and set the width to the largest size possible, click on the original sketch and erase it entirely. after that, you merge the two layers together, scale your new lineart to a smaller size (highly recommended) and save it with a different name and as a .jpg.
to start coloring a lineart, you open your newly made lineart, right-click on the current layer (the lineart) and add alpha channel. next you use the RGB tool (also known as a select by color tool), set the threshold to zero and make sure it's on composite (which is a default whenever you select this tool). next you click on the thickest line of your lineart and it will select the whole lineart (i'd recommend if it's comepletely black, if it's not, then you might want to change the threshold of the lineart slightly). then you hit Ctrl+X, which cuts away the lineart. once that's done, you can see the light and dark gray checker pattern, which represents transparency. next off, you delete this layer, since it's no longer needed, then you go to File>New, and select portrait, and select the largest image you desire (i chose 1024x768), and select fill with white, and right click on the blank image and go to Edit>Paste as...>New layer, and your lineart will be pasted here as a clipboard copy. you might want to move it around using the move tool so that it would fit. if you click on the eye of the background layer, which shuts it off, you can see that the lineart is against the checkerboard pattern, meaning that the lineart has its own layer. once all that's done, you're ready to color!
one last thing, if you are about to color your lineart, make sure it's in an RGB mode and you save your image as a .xcf, which is a GIMP image, so that you could work on it later whenever you restart GIMP.
Hope this helps!
