I have to say, this is the most beautiful shot of a spoonbill I have ever seen. Usually when they're walking around, they look so goofy. But here, with those magnificent wings, they look like something from a fairy tale.

Perfect capture! When it comes to Spoonbills this is a prize shot. Well done.
In Clearwater we have a large group of Spoonbills that hang out every morning with the pelicans on their own private little sandbar "island". Since they don't do anything but walk around all morning feeding the most I have been able to get is shots of them eating. Last week I saw that one of them had left the "island" and was flying towards me so I was able to get a shot of it as it flew overhead. I have a flight shot now, but I am still waiting and trying to get a nice wing spread shot of a Spoonbill while it is on the ground, even if it is on a sandbar which isn't the best setting, in my opinion, for a shot.
Your capture is absolutely flawless and the setting is perfection. A rare and beautiful shot. Congrats!

It's funny because I have heard from lots of floridians about how hard it is to shoot spoonbills. This shot was literally taken on the first day of my trip and I just spotted the bird, waited for it to wake up and took its photo haha. I guess I got really lucky

Spoonbills are plentiful here, but they do little but eat and fly to a new place to eat. The hard part of shooting them is getting a unique or beautiful pose from them as you were indeed fortunate to capture. It was well worth your wait for this Spoonbill to awaken and prepare to fly away. Outstanding shot!

The mosquitoes must have been horrendous, for me it would have been worth it. We already know what you think.
