The worst part is people like this are actually really, really smart. Too smart for their own good... they outsmart themselves and just run around in circles about why to study, instead of just calmly, diligently studying. Faced with hard evidence that they're dumb, and too smart to be able to deny it. Nobody to help them out of that loop. Just sets them up for a lifetime of fighting with insecurity and stigmatism.

Which is exactly what those in power want them to do. Smart people who get ahead have the power to do more than just question the system. And no one is allowed to question the system.

This reminds me of a class trip I had about 8 years back... We were about to break for the Summer, when my teachers came up with the bright idea for a field trip on the last day of school. Normally, no big deal. However, the trip was to an airshow, where teams from all over the world would display their skill for all to see. My parents said there was one catch: since we were cash strapped at the time, I had to earn the money myself. The trip cost almost 80$. Seeing as how my school at the time wasn't helping kids who were tight on money, I did whatever I could. Β When the due date for the permission forms came, I actually counted all the change I had. I was off by less than 5$. I begged my parents for the cash, but they said no. I walked into class and asked a few other kids and their parents for the $4.30 I needed, but I got nos all around. Β I didn't go to school the day of the trip. I didn't do anything but cry into a pillow.

Oh buck... I'm crying again.

(PS: when I finally left my room, I learned my best friend had left me a small package on our doorstep. I will never be able to thank him enough for what he gave me. I still have it, actually, framed, hanging on my wall).

My only issue with this is the wonderbolt posters on the wall. From what everyone else is saying, it's supposed to be about failing something you put your all in, and that the grade was important to her.Β  The class trip posters on the wall suggest that it's not about school itself, but that her parents told her she couldn't go on the trip if she got a bad grade, which is why she's so upset. Which kinda diminishes the message for me if she only cares about the bad grade because of the trip instead of wanting to succeed for it's own sake..

NaterRang In reply to kyuubinaruto18 [2013-11-20 05:23:21 +0000 UTC]

I personally don't see how her underlying motives diminish this piece. Kobrakin had it right. Dash didn't do well in school because she found it boring. She felt like, if she really wanted to do well in school she could. But in this case, something important to her was at stake. She poured everything she had into studying for that test, but it wasn't enough. Her confidence in herself was shattered.

This gives credence to the whole dropped-out-of-flight-school theory. What with her shattered confidence, A: She would not have the strength to carry on,and B: it gives new strength to the whole wanting to be a Wonderbolt to finally be "good enough" in her eyes.

I know that feeling. I worked so hard to get a part for a play to add dramatic effect, guess what, I didn't get the part! I was instead beat by some popular girl who doesn't try at all (No more class votes when choosing pupils, please...), and felt so horrible.

I just realized, when I try so flippin' hard to get something, I don't, and when I don't try, I get it. .-.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

frogboyman In reply to Zodin00t [2014-01-04 14:20:13 +0000 UTC]

I don't think you do get it if you think the other girl didn’t deserve it. A big part of the pain of failure is been disappointed in your self, not feeling betrayed by a worldΒ that deprived you of something you rightfully deserveΒ

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Zodin00t In reply to frogboyman [2014-01-04 21:45:59 +0000 UTC]

I wasn't really trying to imply that I rightfully deserve it (Okay, maybe partially), but it really hurt me when I tried really hard for nothing. I gave it my all, and the girl just read with a somewhat monotonous voice. It really hurts because everyone went with favoritism, and the girl was chosen because she was liked by everyone. I was disappointed in myself since I wasn't that liked, but I was also outraged by the fact that barely anyone voted for me simply because they hated me. I do accept the fact that there will always be someone better than me.

again the pain of thinking you're dumb and the pain of thinking no one likes, you aren’t the same. I'm not saying ones better or worse than the other, just that they're differentΒ

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Zodin00t In reply to frogboyman [2014-01-05 22:08:41 +0000 UTC]

I somewhat disagree with that. Someone can think you are dumb and not really like you. But I can be mistaken.Β

It hurts that you work hard to get what you want for nothing. You pour your heart into something just to have it all crushed. That is what I have been trying to say, and that feeling is quite crushing.
