Decriminalizing the sex industry would create safer conditions for the workers. Legalizing it would protect people in the sex industry from violence and abuse. It would be taxable. More money for the government. Puts law enforcement resources to better uses.Template: [link]

Bless. Someone who understands. It's just sex, and people are gonna do it anyway, why is it illegal in the first place? Keeping it that way is doing nothing but promoting STDs and dangerous situations!

I totally agree. Whether or not prostitution is legal, there will always be prostitutes, and they deserve the benefits of legalisation. It would make their lives a whole lot better.

I think it should be legal if you are:
- Of a legal age.
- It's consensual. I mean, forcing people into prostitution is pretty much like rape to me.
- You are physically, emotionally and mentally capable of it.

If its consensual and both parties are of an appropriate age, why the hell is it illegal? I think protection should be mandatory if it were legalized, since its about pleasure and not child making

I agree with you, but I'd hate to be the one who has to figure out how to regulate it and everything, and I think there'd still be a whole lot of illegal prostitution going on. I mean, think about it, there'd have to be some sort of mandatory STD testing and the like, and very, very often, but how exactly would they go about deciding how often? Would it be like a time-based thing or after every so many 'johns'? And then there's the issue of all the extra money they'd have to earn to cover their health costs, things like a 'license' or whatnot, and to cover their taxes. I think there'd probably be a lot who wouldn't want to deal with all those costs and hassle (and all the extra 'work' they'd have to do to cover the costs of it all), so they'd just continue doing it illegally.
... I feel like I'm thinking about this way too much.

Haha, well it is a lot to think about that's for certain. Though, I'm fairly sure there already exist regulations that have been carefully thought out - at least in the brothels down here in Australia. From what I understand they put in a lot of effort to ensure that all parties involved are carefully protected. I agree that there would likely still be some illegal prostitution going on, but if the men and women are doing it purely of their own volition with a safer option open for them, all they're doing is hurting themselves, and possibly their customers.

I think it's only illegal because the government doesn't make money off of it. I don't think it's bad or good. It's like being a stripper. It's a way of life for some people but not for me.

Not all people become prostitutes by their own will and it's a shame if they get convicted for the fact that prostitution is illegal. I think that sex is too overrated and paying money for it makes no sense, but that's irrelevant here. But I see your point. No matter whether it's legalized or not it is still going to take place anyway.

Sorry for the delayed response - Yes you're definitely right about that - some people are forced into it through human trafficking and other such things. It's definitely a bad situation for many people out there, including children unfortunately. I think that if the profession became legalized (obv. with adults not kids) then there would be better means to crack down on those who try to force others into it. If that makes sense. I'm kind of half asleep at the wheel here, at the moment haha. D: But yeah, as for sex being overrated - some people will pay money for anything it seems: Case in point, those guys who are obsessed with those life-size realdolls, or whatever they're called - they cant get it anywhere else so they pay thousands of dollars for dolls.

i found out about this one place where the people who ran it were ORDERING abortions for 12 and 14 yr olds. is this not f+cked up i ask you?

It's legal where I live. I've heard that prostitutes get monthly examinations. They can't work if they have STDs.

They should keep the prostitutes in some building(so they're not wandering the street), where they feed them and house them. And if a guy wants to pay for one, he has to bring evidence that he is clear of all STIs and that he doesn't have a criminal record (or a wife).

And perhaps if the wife was fine with it, and she would have to go along, or something. In my personal opinion, I don't think it's okay for a married man or woman to be involved sexually with someone else(even if they exclude all emotions). I see marriage as a life-long commitment to someone you love, and that shouldn't include anyone else.
Of course, not everyone sees it that way. It varies with social norms and beliefs.
So for a prostitution home, I guess it would better benefit the "business" if they didn't get so involved with their customer's relationship status.

You make some good points. I have liked the idea of legalized prostitution. the only thing I have a problem with is STD's. The only places here in the USA (Nevada) that have it legally seem to have that under control.
