Description
I was strolling through some stamps earlier today and came across this by ~Starlow-FTW :I read the first couple of lines and was thinking to myself, "Hey, that's not bad!" But upon reading the final line I had to wonder to myself... If we're supposed to be taking personal responsibility for our actions.......Then why throw that in there?
Why say that we cannot blame one particular supernatural being for something because we must take personal responsibility, only to substitute it for another supernatural being?
So, I figured I'd make a stamp for those who might agree with my assessment of that stamp's message.
That being said, I expect you all to be mature adults (or young adults, teenagers, whatever) and DO NOT harass people... Everyone has the right to believe what they will, and if you disagree, do so in a way that won't paint you like a frothing-at-the-mouth lunatic.

I was under the impression that it is your 'responsibility' to resist Satan?Β
Idk, with things like addiction the 'self'/what-a-person-actually-wants from life seem to be clearly at odds with something that is impelling them. In psychology it is called external vs. internal locus of control. With people who have OCD, they too benefit from distancing them 'selves' from the behavoir (not absorbing it into identity) in therapy in order to work on changing it.Β
The line people have to walk is being easy on themselves, not to *keep* blaming themselves for something they screw up on, because carrying that weight around is counterproductive. But, on the other hand, at least trying to fight whatever it is.

Funnily enough, that's actually an interpretation of Satan; some religious people and beliefs are that Satan, instead of being a real entity, is just a symbol in the Bible for human sinfulness and evil.
Sadly... there are also many Christian fundamentalists out there who refuse to not only consider this a possibility, but they often blame Satan when they themselves mess up, but say others messing up is their own fault. I should know; I grew up with someone like that.

The "satan made me do it" is just a pathetic way of trying to get away with horrible actions.Β
Plus if god gave us free will, then how the hell (no pun intended) does satan "make" us do things?!
Christians going against their own stories are what make people skeptical, yet they wonder why.Β

I'm an atheist, but I have Hindu parents; and they're like:

"Oh, I couldn't get the job!"
"That's okay, God didn't want you too."
/ I fail to ace an interviewΒ
"You fucking idiot. I'm ashamed to have you as a daughter."
"...But what if 'God' didn't want me to?"

I agree.
People blame satan too much while it is their fault for saying something. A Georgia principal was fired from her job during a graduation some people were leaving and one thing she said that came out of her mouth was:Β
"Look who's leaving, all the black people."
She blamed satan for the words she had to say. But no it was her actions that landed her in trouble, she looks down upon everyone. Good thing she was fired.

Throughout history various groups have always blamed their problems on X,Y,Z group and never at themselves; Satan just happens to be the one people point fingers at when they can't find another target.
Honestly I think that humanity is the source of it's own evil.Β If you do something bad, then take responsibility for it. If something bad happens to you that you didn't control (natural disasters, disease, death) we already scientific answers as to why those things happen.

THIS. I believe in God but I don't believe in Satan. My mom's a Catholic and blames bad actions and events on "Satan", and that's why I don't like Catholicism. If people actually looked back at history, they'd realize that Satan(or demons) was used as an explanation for anything that wasn't understood. People used to think that people with epilepsy were "possessed" when having seizures, and demons(namely the Incubus and the Succubus) took the blame for children born out of wedlock. I think blaming Satan for everything is for uneducated people.

satan doesnΒ΄t hurt us physically, he wants to make the humans evil, Β he wants to destroy the plan of god, although he wonΒ΄t succeed.
godΒ΄s plan can only work, if we humans are willing to follow jesus and satan wants us to go away from god. thatΒ΄s pretty much everything he does.
