Description
Mario and Kooper standing across Goomboss/Goomba King's fortress.The image above is a screenshot from the game Paper Mario for the N64 with some or all of the original textures replaced by updated versions I created.
The upper picture shows the original textures while the lower one has my improved textures in it.
New Paper Mario is a retexture project for the original Paper Mario game for the N64.
It will be playable on an emulator and my goal is to replace every existing texture in the game, thus giving it a new look.

I think your sprites look fantastic but your foliage and level and sky textures could use some work. Also your bricks seem to lack the shadow and highlights of the stock bricks. The cliff textures don't look as ground'ish as the original textures. The tree top textures with the leaves look great though. Just trying to give some constructive criticism here.

I based my foliage and sky texture on their looks in Paper Mario TTYD, where they have this more stylized design.

The cracks were already there on the original texture. They are just more visible now.

I played this game to death. I almost ruined it for myself. I didn't make that mistake on PM2!

The thing about PM3 is that the basic concept, the whole 2-D 3-D, lack of battle scene idea made the game potentially better than the first two games. The first chapter of PM3 was a blast that left me totally impressed. But it was literally crap from then on. With Bowser on your side, you could beat everyone, including the final boss, in one hit. Where's the fun of that? And the whole running the hamster wheel thing in chapter 2? Honestly, what were they thinking? It's not fun, nor is it cute or funny!!
Plus, they dragged on jokes that were only mildly amusing for far too long. I remember an entire chapter being dedicated to awkward, timid video game nerds. A bit out of place for a Mario game, don't you think?
PM3, in my opinion, was way too caught up in itself. It was convinced it was funny, convinced it was "epic," convinced it was innovative, and it failed to actually live up to any of its hype. The whole game just felt like I was talking to a very irritating self-proclaimed genius.
Sorry to ramble. It's just that the first 2 Paper Mario games are some of my favorite games of all time, and PM3 just kind of crapped all over them and then rubbed it in over and over.

What I missed in PM3 was the RPG concept. I mean, the 2D/3D thing was cool, but it was also a gimmick, it would've fit into PM2 as a bonus level or something.
Well, at least it seems like Paper Mario 3DS resembles more PM2 than PM3.

lol, I like how you added the bandage from the artwork, even though it was never on him in-game.
Then again, Kooper's artwork was usually next to Mario with a bandage on his nose, so...

After looking through the last few pics. I'm really noticing how bright and livily you are making the redesgined pictures look. Keep at it!
