Well I don't often do fanart, in fact, I never do fanart. But this is the exception.I've been a fan of Tove Jansson's Moomin land ever since I was a little kid, after discovering the aged books in my school library.
The character of the Groke long haunted me as a child, with the imagery of her gliding under the moonlight, leaving a path of ice behind her, as she hunted for her prey firmly ingrained in my mind.
Well, here is my homage to the Groke. I tried to stick to Jansson's pen style, I hope I was successful. Anyway, it's just a bit of fun regardless.
By the end of this, I was so sick of drawing all those little lines!

I'm a huge fan of Tove Jansson and Moomin myself, and I find it most pleasant to see people give the "original design" a try and staying to the concept.

The only thing I can complain about (almost not necessary to mention) is that her eyes aren't staring straight forward, which they always do in the books and cartoon.
Apart from that; Great details and an overall amazing drawing! It could have been in any of the books!

That's an insane amount of detail, and the fact that nothing gets lost in it all is all the more admirable.

and blazing eyes.
The Demon Monster is so scary that he wants to scare the children
and eat the children like Sergei the insectivorous creature child.

She was really scary. Everyone I know almost soiled their pants (including me) every time The Groke made an appereance in the television show of Moomin.

Oh! This conjurs up memories. I think I never read the ooks, but I'm sure there was a "cartoon" series of the Moomins (or Mumins in German) in one of the kid's magazines I used to read. The images were definitely similar in tone and mood. Beautifully done.

I love Moomin too! But in Swedish, which is the language it was written in, this is "MΓ₯rran", and Moomin is "Mumin". Isn't it a wonderful world?

The groke scared the B'jesus out of my as a child as well. In my house downstairs theres a wardrobe with glass windows and inside there was a big black coat. whenever i used to sleep in there i thaught that was the groke and it was gona get me when I was sleeping. *Shudder* the horror!!!
