Description
Well I don't often do fanart, in fact, I never do fanart. But this is the exception.I've been a fan of Tove Jansson's Moomin land ever since I was a little kid, after discovering the aged books in my school library.
The character of the Groke long haunted me as a child, with the imagery of her gliding under the moonlight, leaving a path of ice behind her, as she hunted for her prey firmly ingrained in my mind.
Well, here is my homage to the Groke. I tried to stick to Jansson's pen style, I hope I was successful. Anyway, it's just a bit of fun regardless.
By the end of this, I was so sick of drawing all those little lines!

Nell, you are absolutely amazing! This is brialliant and so stylistic! It seems like it walked right out of a dream. I love those hills--how they're dark at the top edge and taper off in lighter values! I must fave this!

I did want it to have a dream-like feel to it, so I'm glad you think so!
I'm really enjoying doing tonal work with a pen! I'll probably do more in this style in the future.
I'm glad you like this, and thanks for the fave!

I remember when I was a little girl and I had a little cartoon-moomin book. I was so scared of Groke! My friend chasing me with this little book 'cause i was so scared of pictures! So, one day I decided to smeard her with the marker n__n

Are you in the uk? Only reason I ask is i work in a large bookshop in london in the children's department and all my moomin books came back in stock again this. They are owned by a publisher called Penguin the kids lable is puffin.
I just bought three more of the moomin books today and started to read comet in moominland. I first saw moomins as a cartoon that was what made me interested in them. Then I heard Philip Pullman talk about reading the books and I thought books there are books. I have been reading one every few months since then. I am on my second one.

I have to find these books now. this is such a neat image, if the original source is anything like it, it must all be gorgeous. Or maybe it's just Nell's awesome artwork that is gorgeous.

Oh, how you flatter!
No, they're really great books, even though they're junior fiction. What I really admire about Jansson is that she wrote and illustrated her books.
I dunno if it would be easy to find copies, all mine are old ones from the 60's and 70's that I found in op shops. I haven't got the whole series, so I'm looking for the others on ebay!
