Glad you liked it. Why are you shamelessly promoting photomatix on my tutorial though? I believe your signature is enough shameless promotion as it is... Hope it helps you out though.

You didn't offend, and you changed your signature as well. =] Your signature just seemed like an advertisement for your affiliate plan with photomatix (which, I suggest photomatix to all wanting to learn HDR) I just didn't think that a signature was a good place to advertise it - but then, I don't do much business either.

Hi! I recently did some hdr using photoshop. Could you tell me which is the best software that provides neat and handy tools for hdr editing? Photoshop does give me certain other options too. Also, Should all hdr be shot in RAW?

Photoshop is absolutely horrid at HDR! =] I suggest Photomatix by HDRSoft [link] though it is about $100, get the stand-alone version as the plugin for photoshop hasn't been all that great. ^^
And yes! All HDR should be shot in RAW with bracketing. If you pull it from just one image it's...well, not what I would consider a photo, but rather a photomanip. ^^
Hope that helps!

I haven't even looked at this tutorial yet, maybe I will later. For now, I'm really IRRITATED at it.
I clicked to open several tabs (okay, a lot of tabs) of HDR tutorials. While they're loading, one of them starts talking. Which one? How to stop it till I get to it? It took reloading each tab one by one to find the "talking" tab and it was this one.
I want to be the one to tell a flash when and if to start. I DETEST autorunning flash.
----------------------------
In closing, HELP!
I'm using Safari 4 on a MacBook Pro with Mac OS X 10.4.11. I would so appreciate advice from any one about disabling autorunning flash, if that's possible.

Ouch, sorry it annoyed you, my intention with it was to make it more interactive and viewable for people learning about HDR and photomatix. I don't know how to disable auto-running flash with dA though =/ i wish I did, annoys the hell out of me as well, and when i uploaded, I wasn't given options for it. =/
If you ever do decide to come back and watch it though, let me know your thoughts as i have been considering remaking one. Though, will still be in flash as i hate the alternative that dA has to offer with overly large save and view images trying to describe the process.

Aww, it's not you. It's me and my quirks and my computer and my browser and my preferences. Joking here: It's all about me, me, me, me!
Someday, who knows, maybe it already exists, someone will write a plug-in or an add-on to all browsers to place-hold running items until the viewer decides to hit play.

i've just recently heard of hdr.
is there a reason you use three images?
is it like layering?
THANKYOU.

Hey! A question about HDR! Wow, haven't gotten one of these in a while. There is a very good reason to take three images, though it is equally important that they are bracketed (you should be able to find how to do that in your camera manual.) They need to be bracketed so you get one under-exposed (as this will merge into the others pulling the highlights without over-exposing them), a normal exposure (the baseline for the merge that is modified), and an over-exposed one (which will pull the shadows into a normal exposure range) and then the three are merged together in the program of your choice. It is like laying, though photomatix gives a tone-mapping ability which is far superb to the version in photoshop, giving you more options, and bring more color and puts the final photo into a normal exposure range.
You can do and 'HDR' by laying images in photoshop as well, using curves and masks, though that is a LOT of work for a resulting image that really doesn't stand out in any particular way. The main purpose of HDR is to produce a final photo that is exposed much like your eye would expose it if you look at the scene and as your irises expand and contrast to the light is how HDR is suppose to recreate an image. (Not sure if you'll be able to find that anywhere online, I found it a while ago and believe it to be true as I hate seeing 'HDR' images where people ghost objects or have halo's around object due to light smoothing issues...but many call that my own personal preference.)
Hope that helps! If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!
Best regards,
Jon

Truly a very useful upload to dA.
I already feel myself a few steps up on the HDR knowlege ladder so this wasn't exactly the most useful tutorial for me, but it had it's value.
For the first time I really know what most of those bars and settings in tonemapping really are!
Thanks!

Wow, thank you very much for the great compliment on my work! It does cover the very basics of it, though I did try explaining what a lot of the functions in photomatix do as well during the creation process.
Thank you again for the compliment to my work, and I am glad someone found it useful!
