I'm a map lover, this is like candy for my eyes! Especially since I have no prior knowledge of your fictional world, this is my first introduction (hopefully there's reading material?), so all the little zoological shapes are extra-extra-tantalizing. I am very thoroughly intrigued.

Thank you Hopefully I'll release more content on Snaiad soon...

That would be awesome! I only explored Snaiad when the site has been down, and there was no change since.

So, is Snaiad a future earth or a completely different planet?

A different planet - in the future.

Quick question, because I'm interested-
how big is a titaniforme generally? Especially, I mean, are they larger or smaller than allotaurs? And uh, what're Thalssia's main predators and what does the Kanhydron lebanisiensis eat?
Just a little curious. I can't access your official webpage.

nemo-ramjet In reply to vasix [2011-06-24 13:52:15 +0000 UTC]

Titaniformes: About the same mass as allotaurs, but a bit longer.

Thanks for the info, and I suppose Magnodirus is the largest of them too?

I like how you stck a human in there for size comparison.

Some of the names sugest this planet was settled by Earth humans from such places as the USA and what was once the Ottoman Empire (New Smyrna, Lebanon, Savannah) as well as England or Australia etc (Wuthering Heights.)

Are the asterixes meant to represent cities?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

nemo-ramjet In reply to Miskatonic-Jack [2011-06-24 13:53:02 +0000 UTC]

Yup, asterixes are cities.
I'm really interested in Mediterranean and Levantine history, hence the Ottoman / Greek names.

Miskatonic-Jack [2011-04-24 20:40:46 +0000 UTC]

That's a great and informative map! Are the asterixes meat to represent cities? If so, some of the names of that as well as other lands suggest that it was colonized by Earth humans from the USA and what was once the Ottoman Empire (Lebanon, New Smyrna, Savannah) as well as England or Australia etc (Wuthering Heights) among other Earth places.

I like how you stuck a humanoid west of Poli, it contrasts well with all the other creatures and gives some idea of size perspective.

I'd like to think that areas newly settled by humans on other planets would take some of their names from imaginary lands out of books and other fiction, which is to say these planets do not already have intelligent life.

You know this makes me wonder, what were the other planets inhabited by other nations (like America, China etc) like , and are you even considering building those planets up, like you've done for this project ?

I remember jotting down something about the Gulf countries using their last oil money to set up a colony on a world with rampant silicon-crystal lifeforms, but that was years ago...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

TrueZersk In reply to nemo-ramjet [2011-02-20 01:09:51 +0000 UTC]

Hm, silicon-lifeforms... I wonder how that would work on a planet that humans could inhabit.

Transplants? Nanotech gone rampant?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TrueZersk In reply to nemo-ramjet [2011-06-25 23:13:58 +0000 UTC]

Ooh, the nanotechnology idea sounds cool. I can just imagine robots so complex that it gets hard to tell them apart from animals. I wonder if viruses would effect them, and in what way. A microscopic robot that attaches itself to other robots and uses it's processing power to make more of itself, maybe?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

nemo-ramjet In reply to TrueZersk [2011-06-27 14:19:08 +0000 UTC]

At the most basic level, there's no difference between nano and biotechnology.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TrueZersk In reply to nemo-ramjet [2011-06-27 21:22:50 +0000 UTC]

Right, but say we made each nanobot (or "cell") really intelligent, along with eusocial. That mind bring up some interesting things.

Interesting ! Since I have already conceptualized a planet with such organisms (noted in my previous journal, the planet Silex), it could probably even be the parallel to Snaiad...though that may be months from now. Though my question is what Gulf countries...I'm thinking America and Mexico, with some of the coolest Neo-Western battles !

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

nemo-ramjet In reply to Chimpeetah [2010-04-20 15:53:24 +0000 UTC]

Aha, I meant the Persian Gulf countries. Arabia, the Emirates, etc. Think Lawrence of Arabia, not Wild West!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Chimpeetah In reply to nemo-ramjet [2010-04-20 19:50:17 +0000 UTC]

Ohh ... I can already imagine Dubai-like meccas, latex clothing, and pyramid-like beasts used as xeno-camels ...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

nemo-ramjet In reply to Chimpeetah [2010-04-21 09:52:06 +0000 UTC]

Heheh... Latex clothing? I think the forests on that planet could resemble an infinite Dubai of weird crystal-column plants.

I also think the people who inhabit those planets would be wildly different from today's Arabs - the colonization takes place a few hundred years after today, plus there's the added trauma of colonization and machine-grown generations on a new planet.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Chimpeetah In reply to nemo-ramjet [2010-04-21 11:13:51 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I too believe that these new Arabs would be completely different from their ancestors, space travel, re-colonization, possibly xenophobia, and an added loss if their religion would result in a people with a very different demeanor, and different customs than today's Arabs. Oh and I saw some designer who made crazy cool looking latex clothes, so that's where the idea came XD as for these crystal creatures, I can easily imagine theses glass trees (as well as some optic fiber like 'grasses'), but I always have a hard time picturing crystalized 'animals' and how they themselves work... I envisioned geometric shaped, organic looking beasts, but glass animals always stump me.

Zippo4k [2008-06-24 03:34:27 +0000 UTC]

I wonder how the toxic lophophids came about?
It seems odd that they would be able to extract the toxins from animals for their defense rather then plants (as is often the case with herbivores on earth with chemical defenses).

Could there have been ancestral proto-lophophids that lived in fungi/plant-growing Acridasterian nests feeding off their host's crops & perhaps the occasional larvae or adult?
I doubt it, but it would be interesting to speculate. Such specialization like that often leads to dead-ends in the long term.

...
I think I just answered my own question... sort of...
lol

so when are you going to update the map at your main page? I'm gonna write a story on Snaiad, I just need the map as a reference sheet. I'm gonna write it in my blog on my Myspace
please check it out.

ps: I'm not sure I understand the bology of snaiad animals, I'm not sure which head does what, and I don't understand the 'hydraulic muscles' do they have a skelton? I'm not sure. Anyway, keep up the good work, and don't be too much of a pervert shrew

pps: I just read All Tommarows the other day, both the art and story was really good, the story seemed unnaturally...realistic.

When you write your story, please give me a link and I'll feature a journal on it!

I'd really appreciate that, right now I have some other unrelated stories that I write, but not many people read them, here's a link Marty Party's blog-stories

It would be cool to get some criticism or input from anybody (it would be cool if they had a myspace as well.)
