Description
I found an old sprite of mine where I began to create a Pianta from Super Mario Sunshine. At the time I began making it, the sprite looked flat and bulky, so I ended up scrapping the project altogether. When I ran across it once again, say, four years later, I decided to remake a Pianta from scratch.I started with the head of the generic blue Pianta to form a sense of scale. From there, I made the plant atop his head (note I said "plant" instead of "palm tree"; my original design ended up looking more like a floppy leaf than a palm frond, so I went back once the rest of his body was complete and remade the tree). The grass skirt proved a major challenge, having been done and redone a total of three times, though I am very happy with how the final product worked out, especially the leaf ends that stick out above his rope belt. The arms were a bitch to position. Nuff said. The feet, while not completely accurate (Piantas' toes are connected at the bottom of the foot), were altered to make them look as though they had massive toes and not pointy elf shoes.
Making the sprite for the woman was little more than changing the palette and adding a yellow top, as was making the sprite for the yellow Pianta little more than adding glasses. In addition, I also created models for Don Pianta from Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door and a custom "Mom Piranta" because I think I'm funny.
