I've been meaning to do another Tutorial for forever, so here you are! How to submit your deviations to a #Group!

Members of my Groups #Hello-Sweetie and #1-Hr-WRITING-Contest sometimes ask me how to go about submitting to groups, so I decided that I would make a Tutorial so I wouldn't have to repeat myself.

Enjoy!

~Ness

I used the Groups #doctorwhoclub and #Hello-Sweetie for the visual references.

A--?? Is that--????? No, it can't be... it's... a...

Is it???

Wow, you guys are awesome, really!

To receive a DD - one of (if not, the most) highest honors on this site - for something I did just to help other members, is something I never expected or even dared to hope for.

You all are awesome, and I love you! I wouldn't have made the Tutorial, if I didn't.

There's a number of submissions you have to make before the group becomes sticky.

i feel like individually searching for groups and typing names into the box is really time-consuming. you have 28 groups for this deviation. is there a way to mass-submit?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nessarie In reply to Usagi-Kai [2011-08-12 00:01:45 +0000 UTC]

Well, once you have the submit widget up, you can submit to as many groups (that you're a member of) that you want, but you still have to type the name of the group in. Other than that, no, there is no "mass submit" option.

I have a question, i had a group in my quick links but I left that group and it's still there. Do you know how to get rid of it and also if you know how to move groups in and out of the quick links, that's really bugging me. Thanks in advance

I have had the same problem, and unfortunately, at this time, it seems that you can't remove them. I'm sorry.

Thanks for the tutorial! The above question about submitting to multiple groups was one of my concerns about the social etiquette of groups. If you have multiple groups to submit your work though, that generally means that a user should be subscribed to many groups, right? But then, shouldn't a member be active in those many, multiple communities as well? I can imagine it's frustrating on group admins to see new members that don't contribute anything to the group. So, is it ideal for a member to be in many different clubs then, or a few groups? What do you think?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nessarie In reply to craftysorceress [2011-01-02 17:13:38 +0000 UTC]

Well, it honestly depends on the situation, I think. Sometimes, groups will come to you with a request for your piece, or your piece will be "submitted" by a member of that group (you would receive a notice, asking for your permission, in this case), in which case, you wouldn't have to be a member of the group at all.

However, MOST groups require you to be a member in order to submit your work. I know when I submitted this tutorial to the groups, I did have to join a few. I did note the groups first, asking if they would like to use the tutorial (I was trying to get out of joining), but most of them told me to join first and then submit. One group actually got mad at me, and called me a solicitor (which I hadn't realized my offer could be construed as such). Obviously, I did not join that group.

As sad as it is to say, I think most admins are more interested in how many members they actually have opposed to how many are actually active. I know in my groups, I have quite a few members, but only a handful of them are active.

Likewise, many people are simply members to say that they are, and not so much because they want to actively participate in the group.

Ultimately, I think the choice is up to you, and what YOU feel comfortable with. I really don't think anyone is going to say "Ooooh, look! She's a group whore! I'm not going to like her because of that!" And, honestly, if they're petty enough to actually say something like that, then you didn't want their attention anyway.

So, my advice would be to simply do what you're comfortable with. You can also try noting the group and explaining the situation (i.e. "Hi, I would very much like to submit my piece to your group, but I fear that I won't be an active member - would it be okay to offer my piece and let you decide if you want it, instead of joining and not actively contributing?" [or something along those lines] ). Most groups, like I said, will simply ask you to join anyway, but there are a few who will understand the situation and be happy to help you out.

You can also join, submit your piece, and then unjoin. I haven't ever done it, so I don't know if it has any effects on your pieces in the group gallery, but I don't think it should. I've had people leave my groups, and their pieces are still in the group galleries.

I'm glad you found the tutorial useful, and I hope my advice has helped!

I'm new to this whole group thing, so I thank you for this tutorial!

I have a question though-

Is it illegal/bad form/ generally not a good idea to submit one piece to multiple groups?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nessarie In reply to Allison-beriyani [2010-12-14 15:52:19 +0000 UTC]

Oh, no! You can do that! That's sort of the point, to help you/your piece get noticed. It's great to have it in multiple groups, so it's fine to submit to as many groups as you want.

I'm glad you found the tutorial useful!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nessarie In reply to Risen-Dawn [2010-10-15 03:57:22 +0000 UTC]

Then it's either (a) you're not allowed to submit to that folder or (b) it's a glitch (which does happen on occasion). If you're not sure, note the group, and a higher up will help you straighten the problem out.

Not all groups require joining for submission; a point you might have raised. Not that I'm nagging you or anything - it's a good tutorial regardless.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Nessarie In reply to FakeKraid [2010-10-06 13:52:32 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I know. But MOST groups ask that you join if you want to submit your own work. But, yeah, I know a there are some groups out there that let anyone submit their work, member or not. I didn't want people to get confused though, if they thought that that's how it always worked and then they went to submit something and were like "I can't do eet!!11!"

~Ness
