quite. I also don't think she will happily repeat the excercise over and over until I nail the shot like sweep does lol.

thanks! i was getting quite frustrated during this shoot. this shot is the only razor pin sharp one out of a 150 attempts at getting him heading for the camera! The lens just can't keep up with him and its a pro spec lens!!!

I had to fullview just to make sure that was really the look on the dog's face...your dog is psycho.

thanks! the camera is irrelevant. I also have a d200 and use that a lot as well. Its the glass that makes the major contribution, and even more its the photographer

great shot - what an expression!
I can understand you're frustration though, needing around 150 shots to get one that you are happy with.....I'm having dreadful trouble getting my camera to give me a sharp landscape shot - everything is coming back blurry! I'm about ready to chuck it in the river next time I'm down there

you really need to use a tripod for landscape and you need to focus on infinity, and set an apperture of around f9-16

I've been trying to keep to about f/10 but even with a tripod I got blurry results...but....after a comment on my moaning by another DA Hero, it may be that it's viewing the unprocessed image at 100% that's leading to my disappointment...that and shooting in Jpeg......( writes out 100 times - I must not shoot in Jpeg, I must always shoot in RAW )
Thanks for taking the time to reply...I'll try changing the aperture a bit

jpegs shouldn't be blurry, thats not your problem. It soundslike your tripod may not be sturdy enough for the weight of the camera. Also you should use a remote shutter release (if you have one) or the timer mode to stop shutter shake effecting the exposure. If you have a remote release, use the camera in mirror lock up mode (if it supports this mode) as this opens the shutter and you press the button a second time after the shake has died down.
try that
what camera are you shooting with?

I got a tripod for Christmas and I've been using the timer. I have a Sony Alph 100 as I originally had a Minolta and the lenses are compatible. I've taken some shots this afternoon in RAW format - I'm about to load 4 Thanks for your input

I think out of the series so far this shot truely captured that determined, and ferocious expression of a dog trying to get that ball. Also, I like the position and the soft focus of the ball, which I think helps pin point the focus in him more. Really amazing shot.

glad you like the shot.
it would of been nice to keep the ball in shot but its not that simple to keep optional things in focus when your shooting with an SLR camera in limited light and with a fast moving subject and telephoto lens You have to have a fast enough shutter to freeze the action which sucks up available light lowering your apperture which means less detail on things other than the subject the camera is focused on. try it

lol, I know it's difficult and I don't know enough about my camera to use basically anything on it but the auto function.
