Description
Question and Answer(You can do this by going to "File", then to "Dialogs", and clicking on the "Patterns" button. Once a screen comes up with your patterns, a little refresh button [two arrows circling each other] should be at the bottom. If you click that, your patterns should refresh, and your new one should be among the old ones~)

I have a question: what if someone already made a watermark for you? How would you get it in your work? I tried figuring it out, but I couldn't do it. :/

If you save the watermark they made you as a brush, you can substitute step 9 - that being drawing your watermark on with a round brush - for the brush you made your pre-made watermark into. The same applies to text, as long as you merge the text layer down :3 let me know if you're still confused about something.

Thanks so much!
Wait, just to sure, I'd save it as a brush the same way I'd save it as a pattern, correct? Also, how do I move it around? I was trying to figure out how place my watermark in a place where it'd be difficult to paint over or cut out, but I couldn't figure out how to move it around. :/

NexisSakura In reply to yeahgirl11 [2010-12-09 18:03:01 +0000 UTC]
Yes, you can save a brush in the same way you save a pattern, except you'll be saving it as a ".gbr" rather than a ".pat", and you should save it to the file "brushes" under "2.0" rather than "patterns", obviously.
Once you have the design set as a brush, you should be able to use it just like you would any other brush, meaning that all you'd have to do is have it hover over the spot you'd like your watermark in (I'd recommend near/on the focal point of your image) and click once. The brush should stamp the watermark on.
Let me know if you have anymore questions!

I am so confused. Dx
Do you know ho wto make a watermark with a already drawn image, like scanned, then place on your art? D:>
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
NexisSakura In reply to OxieMora [2009-12-12 13:23:57 +0000 UTC]
Yep :3 You basically just follow the same steps as above, though you'll need to create a new layer beneath the already drawn image that you scanned. As soon as a picture is on the computer - whether it was drawn there or on a piece of paper originally - you are capable of following the same steps on this tutorial in order to wartermark it :3

Actually, if you're just looking for a dA logo, there's a button in the submission page labeled "watermark", that will put a generic dA symbol plus your username as a watermark for your picture~ :3 and that's okay, I'm here to help~

sometimes if your picture isn't set to 100% (sometimes the GIMP will automatically put it at 65%), the checkerboard pattern will just show up as a grey color that seems to almost move, because the white and black segments are so small that they blend together, but your eye is still attracted to both the light and dark areas. Perhaps this is why you didn't see the checkerboard? There's an example of the grey-color in the artist's comments, if you need a visual example :3

that's sort of the point :3 that way, the watermark is there, but not completely obstructing the picture itself.

Though I like the idea. You're good with thinking up a new technique. Usually i just turn down the opacity.

XD;; now that I look again, that's very true. I haven't really made a watermark for myself this way in a long time, so I'd forgotten just how invisible it was...
Thank you for the compliment~ The tutorial actually came about as a result of my own need to create a watermark. I had found several tutorials that explained it, but none of them were put together very well, and were not only hard to understand, but skipped some steps by accident. I made this so that others wouldn't have to make the same mistakes while reading the other tutorials as I did~

NexisSakura In reply to SerendipitousMistake [2009-06-16 02:36:31 +0000 UTC]
I think I know what the problem is. Sometimes when you make new patterns or new brushes, they don't show up on the screen you currently have up. Ie: since the program hasn't had a chance to refresh itself and acquire the new pattern, it doesn't realize that the new pattern exists. Try refreshing your patterns~
(You can do this by going to "File", then to "Dialogs", and clicking on the "Patterns" button. Once a screen comes up with your patterns, a little refresh button [two arrows circling each other] should be at the bottom. If you click that, your patterns should refresh, and your new one should be among the old ones~)

:3 I'm glad~
Ah, I remember having that problem myself. Took me and my mom like an hour to figure out what was wrong.
The answer is that... there isn't anything wrong XD;;; What you're seeing is, in fact, your checkerboard pattern. The dots are just so incredibly tiny that they make the image appear to be gray. If you're still unsure, enlarge the image a little so you can see the actual checker-boardness.
Like before, I'm here to help if you need me :3
