Description
This week's assignment: A personal protagonist and antagonist, characters based out of our life experience. It was a really rough week for me...I started pretty strong, but by the middle of the design process I was really lagging...and then in the last possible moment I went to the school library picture collection, pulled a file on Chinese costume and Kojo took shape. I don't know how attached I am yet, but I am quite pleased and he was well received by all. The concept I wanted to tackle was brotherhood (I know they're young and super ambiguous, but they're both brothers...he'll probably get reworked). I was all into this Celtic warrior motif with braided beards and all that, and ultimately it just wasn't working the way I wanted it to. The best thing in situations like that, as it turns out, is to move away from the source material you're stuck on. I put on some Yoshida Brothers and had some odd dreams in expansive grassy plains. Obviously I came back to the Celticish-thing, but the result is very different, with significantly less beard per square inch.I could go on and on, but really, that's what my blog is for...I'll probably elaborate on all this later in the evening when I have more time over there: [link]
and if you want to know what this sounds like to me, I highly recommend hunting down a song called "Frontier" by the Yoshida Brothers!
Hope y'all like him! (And no, I'm not sure about the name...I just thought it was funny

Gaw... I'll bet his little brother feels pretty safe where he is. A very fun design!

Aww, the little bother is so cute. I really like the way that you've done his arms especially the painted on hands. If you hadn't said Celtic than I would've guessed Inuit, although the weather doesn't match. Nice work.

Not even with the strong Braveheart overtones? Inuit is WAY cool, though. I have been looking at a lot of Siberian and Russian costuming recently...(not the same, but Northerly)

the idea of them beeing Β«braidedΒ» together is just great. at the same time funny and original. i'd like to see that in a cartoon.
