"Apollo One" (Q4 2018)
During our stay in the Canyonlands National Park my friend Philipp Lutz Photography and I decided to do a hike into the night from the Needle's District visitor center all the way to the Chesler Park and then on wards on the loop. After having no luck with the weather for sunset as there were no clouds we hoped to get a good night shot with the half moon rising in the south west. We took quite a few pictures on our 8 hour hike but this one took the cake. As we were already back on the way to our car we came across this prolific stone formation and decided to make one last stop to shoot star trails above the peak of this beautiful stone pillar. The wind had already picked up which is why for the most part we were dancing around to keep warm in almost sub zero temperatures. Our cameras clicked on for about an hour before we thought we had enough to create a stunning image. After eating all our chocolate chip cookies and fantasizing about what instead we would eat if we had the opportunity we went on our way back to the car for another two hours. Well worth it for the experience though.
