The amount of research you put into this commission is still so heartwarming to think about, I really appreciate how much effort you put into it! I would've never known about the hand-grabbing a sword thing being a legitimate practice in sword fighting, but now I do?? It's also such a sneaky move to play on Spirit's part and that's really cool of you ot have him do! Makes him feel more legitimate and unafraid, as he should be given his character and title

Yep, that's a move! He's right, it's not cheating, in battle your goal is to keep yourself alive against your opponent. If grabbing the blade gets you a cut hand and a dead enemy, it's a worthwhile exchange.

Grabbing a sword by the blade was a real historical move, described even in old swordfighting manuals! Nice detail!

Yes, it takes a bit more of caution and knowig how to grab the blade safely, but it can be done. I think there's a video on YT by Skallagrim where he explains a bit more of the blade grab. Also the half-swording (grab the sword by the blade and pretend it's a "hammer"/"bat") is rather impressive.

Yes I know. I practice German longsword and half swording is one of the most satisfying moves ever when it can be pulled off! Also gotta love sword grabs, pommel strikes... there's a lot more than blade on blade (or blade on body) that can happen (and is/was also trained). Happy to meet another sword/HEMA enthusiast, btw.

Awesome hobby by the way, really wish I could do it too, but sadly there are no possibilities close enough to me and I can't afford driving for 2-3 hours for every lesson
