Description
Don't get too excited, it's just more concept work! The comic is not ready yet.But it is exciting for me to see a completed page. I probably should have made a page that incorporated dialogue... But instead got a page showing Neave's power! I really needed to see how this would look in colour. She uses a manipulated version of her echolocation to shoot powerful bursts of sound waves to move particles. She can manipulate the sound waves to show an image from her mind in the sand, and even pulse the image into another dolphins mind as if she were bouncing their own echolocation back to them.
I'm torn between white panel borders or blue. Check out the blue here and tell me what you think: sta.sh/0ucqz72tbb6
I lean more towards the white, but not sure how it will look on 'darker' pages. I guess I'll have to make more test pages to see.

This page is gorgeous and lovely done. I like the sonar effects; Neave has bright imagination. The colours, lights and shadows are great too. Even as a concept page, it would be totally worth if it gets a chance to appear in your comic for this is too innocent to ignore.
About the panel borders, after checking both alternatives, I think you shall go on white. Blue feels quite clumsy and it gives the page a less sense of space. White is something I'd go for; however black maybe can suit during dark scenes, just my theory. Also the panels are so smooth to see; the curved corners are better than edgy ones to be honest.

Thank you so much for your input! I appreciate it
I hope I can start this comic one day but I have lost faith in the story I had in mind for it. Still love the characters and general idea... Hopefully I can overcome the story problems lol. It would be fun to create a comic but now I'm not sure I will ever get it done!

Thanks!
I haven't had much time lately to work on it unfortunately! BUT I will get to it.

Thank you!
The more I consider, the more I lean towards the white border. I think a coloured one will impact the background colours on the pages too much.

This is really neat, I love how you drew the sonar. She has such a neat ability. Can't wait to see more even if its concept art. I definitely like the white borders. It looks more clean.

Thank you! I'll definitely get more concept work done I have a test page in mind that will feature my otter, Scutt.

OOH NEAT ! I abssolutely LOVE the idea of sonar producing 3d images - it's something I hope to see more of in cetacean artworks in the future. :,D I also really like the way you depicted the sonar waves as being kind of 'bubbly' - I love seeing how artists choose to visualize them
the white borders look clean and professional - I definitely think they're the way to go!

Thanks! Watching footage of how sound waves can move and levitate objects was too interesting to ignore! It's cool to think dolphins could tap into a power like that. : D
I definitely think the white border is the way to go. I was looking at black as well but I wasn't too keen on that (too common XD ), which is why I went the dark blue for a similar look. But the more I consider a coloured panel border the more I'm put off by it. I think it will impact the background colours too much.

YEAH, ABSOLUTELY.... man I am so excited to see where you will go with this story : D this reminds me of a technology I stumbled across in my own research, called a 'cymascope', which uses water to capture sound waves as images. a lot of the info on the cymascope website feels pretty arcane and far-reaching, but it's still a cool source of inspo for imagining the world of a sonar-using creature. they've got a neat video visualizing the sounds of that one beluga who was famous for his attempted mimicry of human speech: www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pIbMA…
and if you're worried about the white borders on dark backgrounds, I think if you're using white speech bubbles as well it will still go together and not be too distracting! but anyways yeah, it looks really good so far o/

That is so cool! Very neat to see the echolocation visualized like that!
I was looking into videos like this, sound moving water:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=uENITu…
www.youtube.com/watch?v=THUMdT…
And moving sand into patterns:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvJAgr…
And ultrasound levitating objects
www.youtube.com/watch?v=OIh-Bh…
So many interesting ways to go! Dolphins have the capability to have lots of cool 'powers' Don't let a lack of thumbs get in the way of success XD
Basically my story is about the development of a new advanced society and dolphins becoming the dominant species of the planet, eventually taking control of the ocean, land and sky (and perhaps eventually space XD) over multiple generations in 3-4 books . That combined with strong religious elements.
It's a massive story in my mind! Even if I just finish the first book, which is more about introducing some of these elements to set up the series, I will be happy!

AAAAHHH WOW, I had only seen the first one of those videos before - those are all so interesting!! the patterns in the sand are especially inspiring and beautiful... makes me wish I could see sound all the time, ahaha
and your story idea sounds AMAZING - I love it!! such a grand scale, too... how long do you plan on making each book?

around 250 pages per book XD
Broken down into around 36 pages per chapter.
It is grand. MAYBE TOO GRAND.
Meanwhile, I just had to bring it up, but I just started playing the game, "Subnautica" and it is damn inspiring for my comic. You explore underwater on an alien planet. It's absolutely beautiful and nice underwater landscapes and cool sci-fi elements And the story so far is pretty cool as well. THAT'S A LOT... 200-250 is what I give the estimate for how long Sunder will be, but only time will tell what the actual number will end up as, haha
AND OH MAN YEAH I actually have played subnautica a little bit..... I lost interest and stopped awhile ago, but you're the second person to recommend it to me recently so I think I should give it another go (I actually just have bad attention span for videogames ahah <:,D)

OHMIGOSH NIM THIS IS LOVELY!!!!!
I love how you have the panels separated with a cohesive BG behind them, it looks so nice ;A;
The white borders also look great I personally prefer them over the blue c: but the BG colors
are probably my favorite thing about the page, the greenish blues and sandy sea floor just look so pretty!
The concept is also super interesting! I cannot wait to see how else she uses such an ability!

Thanks Matsu!
I love the BG too! I was originally going to make one entire panel of the comic be the background which would have been very similar, but my partner mentioned this way and I really love how it turned out with just the background/landscape in the BG instead of the panel. So pleased with it!

I kinda like the white borders. The blue is a bit too dark. Maybe if it was a few shades lighter?

Welcome! ^.^ Hm, there's so many shades of blue I can see this being hard to choose one that will look good on both dark and light pages.
