Description Here the drafts for some buildings that will be seen in the story.
I'm testing a new way of rendering 3D models: the results are still rough and pretty awful , but there are a few things that I like about this method.. (one thing is that is really fast ) I need to do a few more tests, to see if it is a viable option for the comic.

Technical notes: Some of these are models that I downloaded from Sketchup website and imported and modified in Maya. Lights, setting, texturing (and usually the modeling itself) is all done in Maya, which I also use for the rendering. The raw images are post-processed in Photoshop.

I'm a total noob at 3D-modeling programs... So to me anything you do with the help of them looks gorgeous!!    Earlier we've seen lots of luxurious, classy palaces and mansions, and the pieces of modernist architecture depicted above appear very unexpected in a good way. You shake up into a nice cocktail Italian architecture, Third Reich aesthetics and modern buildings!

The differences between Stelvio's fortress and archery arena made me recall Albert Speer's (the chief architect of Third Reich) prison memoirs. He was grumbling and snarling all over the book at "Mies van der Rohe's boxes of glass and concrete"  Maybe in case of your "Heil!" architectural diversity could even reflect the faction and intraparty strife...

I think it looks good, especially on 'the Victorious'. I love the villa's candy floss trees.
I'd do modern buildings like this, personally. Their shape lends itself to it. I also despise trying to get all the angles to look right when drawing buildings by hand, such a hassle. This way the angles can be perfect straight away and you never have to make it again for a different view. Also, no inconsistencies to worry about.

The "candy floss trees" are the result of a miserably failed experiment... it was an attempt to save ram memory (and avoid rendering that last forever...) but now I have a new pc, with more ram, so that I can do trees properly...

Thanks a lot for your nice words my dear!!

Come mai?! Hai qualcosa in cantiere? O magari sei solo super impegnata con altre cose!!

That's quite impressive for 3D rendering-based work! Do you use cell-shading post process in Maya? I can figure out some of the filters used in PS, and how textures were applied in Maya (some of the UV mapping could be improved on the villa's roof) but I'd love to see the raw image from Maya rendering OuO

Hi dear sorry for the late answer.. I've been neglecting Tapastic lately... I'm so sorry about that!
So do you use Maya too? I trashed the raw renderings of these, but I have uploaded another one here just for you..
non-nobis-domine.deviantart.co…  As you can see from this raw I don't use any particular post processing with maya, I just add a little pfxToonShape to strengheten the broders.. but that's all! And for the texturing.. ah ha you're right!!! I hate skinning models!!

Man. These look very awesome, especially for test images. Also, it's always cool to see architectural pieces with great significance to the plot, especially considering Silfser and his rise from a scrapper to a member of the Nazy regime in a building like that. Certainly works me up that they would allow such a brutal gaming event to take place in that arena, though. These people of this generation are seriously screwed up, I'm telling you

Gotta admit though, seeing high tech architecture like this makes me wonder what era this story is supposed to be set in, at least in comparison to ours. For some reason I always felt it would revolve around a 1940's type setting, but seeing these puts things into a slightly different perspective.

Very cool to see that you're starting to use Maya, and if you decide to incorporate these designs into the comic in these textures, I doubt anyone would hold it against you. Definitely makes me want to pursue dabbling in Maya again.

thanks a lot my dear!! Your comments are a piece of art themselves! Seriously have you ever thought of working as review-writer for newspapers or websites?! You'll do great!! I feel a bit ashamed   because my silly works don't deserve so much attention..

Yes yes you're right I too was thinking about a setting around 1940-50... But I'm very loose about historical things.. (I'm afraid this doesn't sound very professional.. ) I tend to trust my feelings here.. If it does look "right" or it is useful to the story... I just do it.. I don't care if it is a spaceship or a castle with the drawbridge..

So so you too use Maya?   wow this is a great news!! Have you ever posted your 3d works? I'm curious to see them now!!
Thanks again  for your nice words my dear!!

You're very welcome, my friend. Honestly, I haven't thought about it much, but I suppose if I got into it with enough depth, it would be an interesting route to pursue. Of course I'd still like to focus on my own writing, but it's still a very intriguing outlet to look in to

I can totally understand. What matters is how you feel when you're making it. And it's a good thing that you felt right with the way that this came out.

Actually I only just downloaded Maya, so I haven't really had that much practice. I feel like it'd take a great deal of trials to really get it the way I want it, but I still definitely want to try it, while still maintaining my own style with it if possible

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

non-nobis-domine In reply to StripedMidget [2015-01-12 21:23:17 +0000 UTC]

Vegeta89 In reply to non-nobis-domine [2015-01-12 23:10:18 +0000 UTC]

Neat, but I especially like the Ukian architecture. I guess Gombostonian one would be similar as brutalism really "projecting an atmosphere of totalitarianism". Of course it would be rather builded more suited for war, more buker-like.

As for the Duke's mistery i have a hunch that involves meat consumption.

We'll see... allthough if it's going to be senseless viollence or something decadent, i probably going to hate the duke for it.
Aimless cruelty is something i don't really approve and i guess Ybrid don't disappear becasue he rans a secret sanctuary under his villa.
