Description
This array was done in traditional alchemy. Most of us have probably seen the array that was used to control water in FMA brotherhood ([link] is the link to the original array). It was a clever array, but it still doens't work. Not in our real alchemy. My array uses takes water and begins to stir it. Instead of the actual stirring occuring, the movement energy is converted into heat energy. Basicly, no stirring it freezes and stirring it quickly super heats the water. I dont see a better way of describing it.

Do you have an Alchemic symbol for Salt water or Sea water?

None comes to mind. Sea water is simply water with salt. Thus, I would think a small inner array could be used to create a distinguishing algorithm, but it really doesn't matter. If you used this array to control the water, it can pick up the salt with the water or be used to remove the salt from the water. Just depends on how you use it.

I was curious but...does using alchemy for a beginner dangerious for the water control array? also do you have to speak a incantation or spell? thank you.

I'm sure it would be dangerous if you were a beginner, but be it that it's impossible to actually do, I think it's equally safe/dangerous for any level of expertise.

Could this array move water or only freeze water or boil it in it's current position? Meaning, can I be a water bender (moving and freezing water with the bonus of heating it) or am I limited to only freezing and boiling?

FMA alchemy and traditional alchemy are slightly different. This was traditional alchemy.

Hey, I've been looking through your alchemic circles and came across this one. It's really cool!!
I have a fma character that uses water alchemy and I was wondering if I could use this array for her. I have one now, but I've been wanting to change it for a while...

I like this! Just a question though; There's an array I'm curious about. I have a feeling it might be this one, but I'm not sure. I have always been interested in which alchemic reactions do what. Not the fancy stuff like human transmutation (although I must admit, the design is pretty awesome), but stuff like making flames, setting up walls, boiling water, ect. But I'm beating around the bush here, so I'll get to the point. Would this be a circle you would inscribe on the bottom of a pot, to boil water without means of a fire? And do you have to touch the circle for this to work, or simply the pot that the circle is inscribed in? Just to be on the safe side, and if you need it, the pot will be made from cast iron, with small handles made from an insulated material (I'm not sure what materials were available in 1900's Amestris) Sorry about bombarding you with questions, and have a nice day!

An array that works without touching it takes special preparation. Usually, we would find some way to restrict the flow of power until something allowed for the flow. In this case, you would need the water to allow for the flow. But getting the power is the hard part. I would use a converter. It turns geothermal energy into transmutable energy. The combination of these two could create a self-powering array.
This array, though, is not self powered. It would, however, boil and freeze water without the use of flames. Fire transfers energy into the pot which goes into the water and boils it. This energizes the water, as a way so speaking. It changes the molecular movement. You control how fast the H2O spins. The slower it spins, the colder. The faster, the hotter.
Now if you are looking to create a fan character for FMA that uses boiling water in a pot and does something with it, you can make this a basic zero contact array. By making an array set up similar to this one, [link] you can make a water boiling array, but activate it from a distance using a different array.
The other thing to remember is that this array can transmute water that it is not in contact with. Do you that guy with the water bottle over there? Using this array, you can cause it to superheat SO LONG AS there is air. This wont work in space. But it transmutes water through the air.
So I have a feeling this was very confusing, and if it was, I will better explain it. I hope this helped.

Oh yeah! The faster the molecules move, the higher the heat, due to friction! That's common knowledge in science! Gah, I feel like an idiot now... so in order to activate the array, you need to touch it... so I suppose you would also need a rack for the pot... maybe putting raised feet on the pot would help... As for the use of the pot, it's solely for cooking. Nothing more. Unless you dumped the boiling water on someone's head, though I doubt that would do much in combat... Anyway, thank you for replying to this message! And no worries about the written format; I do understand your selection of vocabulary, and am personally excited to engage in intelligent conversation with you! Hardly anyone seems to do that nowadays...

I suppose compared to most messages they receive, that one would be a bit overwhelming... although I think that it would be worth it to read; after all they did ask a question. I see it like Alphonse Elric's new view of equivalent exchange: getting back 11 after giving 10, or the simple yet effective line "Ask and ye shall receive". Um... and another question: you know the molecular structure of hydrogen, right? So in order to transmute it into something else (assuming you did not need a container to hold it in, which from what I'm aware of isn't physically possible) it is mandatory to "inject" another substance/element into the circle to make it work, otherwise you'll just be shaping that same hydrogen? Please correct me if I'm wrong...

Notshurly In reply to hatpin-understudy [2010-07-11 18:45:18 +0000 UTC]
I'm afraid I don't completely understand what you mean.
It is always possible to add more elements into the array. [link] Using 1 or 3 would be your best bet. You can also use nuclear arrays to create higher elements. Now I have not released how to draw a nuclear array that lets you do, basically, :1+x=a =a :repeat, or creep along the periodic table atom by atom.
Now if you use 1 and 3, then you will be constantly adding hydrogen to the mix (given you instructions don't say otherwise).

Sorry it took me a while to get back; I was trying to figure out how to refine my question. I guess it would be stated more like this: If you were to transmute hydrogen into another substance, say, oxygen, would you have to add another element/substance into the circle in order to do so? Hopefully this helps...

Notshurly In reply to hatpin-understudy [2010-07-13 00:45:50 +0000 UTC]
No. You can use just hydrogen. You add hydrogen to hydrogen, and get helium. Add that to hydrogen, lithium. Then on and on. But in order to do this, It takes a special nuclear array. I will be uploading it soon.
