Decided it was about time to make a (slightly) in depth tutorial about how I draw!ΒIf you have any more questions about my process feel free to comment and I'll answer as soon as I can ^^
I use Photoshop and a piece can take me anywhere from 2-6 hours depending on complexity.

though for the magic wand tool...
Why not add the "shadow" lines in a different layer, and use the wand tool on Step 2? Maybe it could save time!

PonyBytes, I was wandering what is a Overlay layer exactly ? By the way that a very useful tutorial ^_^

I'm not really sure how to explain exactly what it does, but it allows you to get a colour to react with other colours in an interesting way. I usually use it for making things look like they're glowing.
I drew up a little example:
I know overlay layers exist in SAI and Photoshop, but I'm not sure about any other programs. They're located in the layer type tabs along with things like multiply and luminosity layers ^^

Hey ! Thanks a lot for sharing, this makes me feel good and safe because I actually follow the same step as you do.
I only have problem to locate shadows and lightning.
Too lazy to comment on the original draw. It's absolutely gorgeous ! Love how detailed it is and that face of applebloom. I really start to appreciate a lot your art, cheers !
