The artifacts code-named 'Volcan' were recently discovered in the deep atmosphere of the Circlet's gas sub-giant primary. Thus far only limited information on their design and construction is available; No samples have been retrieved and the above is an artist's composite of sensor images. Like the previous 'Helios' artifact, they are likely constructed largely of PTU-557, an artificial element with secondary and perhaps intentional sensor-baffling characteristics in addition to its regular use as the primary component of a structural alloy found throughout the Circlet and all known associated artifacts. Additionally, these craft were discovered both deep inside the gaseous planet's atmosphere as well as directly in the artificially created 'churn' where the Circlet's atmospheric processing and recycling system injects and extracts atmospheric gases into the depths. This posits that such positioning was intentional and designed to make the craft hard to access and recover with specialized equipment being required; SDF-Benz and SDF-Geim (Orbital-Class Recovery Cruisers) are currently being fitted and deployed for this project. Recovery of a whole or intact example is a priority with the likelihood that these ships contain a working example of their creator's faster-than-light drive and would yield important data as to their spread and disappearance from the galaxy.

Regardless of the lack of a physical example, some aspects of the ship can be surmised. Like 'Helios', it appears to be armed with the same variable coherent energy weaponry (lasers) and in limited numbers. The design is open and appears to be oriented around orbital and atmospheric combat and their scale - roughly that of Defense Force Destroyer-type vessels - would seem to put them in the same combat role and with an emphasis on precision rather than mass combat. It is plausible that these are police or paramilitary vessels where their expected interaction is with civilian rather than military elements. Given this, it is possible that larger and more capable ships exist though no evidence of their existence has yet been uncovered. Their exactly combat maneuvering and capabilities cannot be guessed but they are durable enough to have lasted in the deep atmosphere - and a churning vortex at that - for the last seventy-plus thousand years. As of the present time it is assumed that they will have some kind of active command and control system unlike the 'Helios' and various drone examples thus special care will be required in the recovery of a sample.
