For years the Type-3 Exoskeleton would languish in an unremarkable storage depot until the vast military mobilization required during the Tribulations sent the industrialists in search of anything they could possibly put on the battlefield. The prototypes for the Type-3 were yanked out of storage, put through their paces, and found to be deficient but useful. Every aspect of the Type was brought up to modern specifications; New post-composite armor, active neural interface controls, exotic matter catalytic reactor, and fully-automated tracking and engagement sensors, and of course improved weapon systems.

A high-volume accelerator rifle was designed for mounting on the right forearm, and an eccentric missile box launcher issued for the other. New variable-frequency lasers were integrated into the shoulder mounts and a QUIET-type active stealth system installed to give the unit some chance against the [REDACTED]. Drone control systems were added as well, and then the newly-dubbed 'Type-5' was put into mass production.

It would see the end of the Tribulations but the worlds of the former Chosen Dominion of Ynij would not, destroyed utterly in the mayhem of the period. Thus the Type-4 - originally created to fight a war it never fought - would see battle but with the Qi as they fought alongside the Republic against [REDACTED].
