The Impetus-Class is another part of the changing nature of the Republic Fleet. Designed to operate as an escort for the larger Instrumentality-Class, the Impetus is similarly an unmanned-'manned' starship where the flesh and blood crew has been replaced by imprinted engrams and expert systems. By eliminating crew spaces this allows for more firepower in a smaller package as well as the dick-move of using the escorting Impetus as ramships to eliminate super-capital ships and the like. Unlike the more warlike and (fundamentally) inefficient aggressor states that it finds itself in conflict with, the Republic can easily replace one of these smaller ships while they may struggle for many years to build another giant space penis.
