A reproduction of the classic Constitution-Class that fits within the Sunset Defense Forces design ethos. The Engineering Section has been pulled in closer to the Saucer Section to reduce the forward cross-section and the pylons have been thickened to provide them with additional protection. Particle cannon batteries have been added on the underside of the saucer, and the torpedo launchers in the engineering pylon have been upgraded to the larger Cyclone launchers used by the Defense Force. Within the Republic's nearFederation, the Constellation plays much the same role as it does within that alternate fiction; An independent cruiser-strength starship subject mostly to the whims and goals of its command crew with little guidance from Fleet but to go explore here or keep the peace there. Crew levels are typically light - in the hundreds with some dipping as low as the highest double-digits - and there is often a distinct sense of family and friendship distinct from the part-of-the-machine attitude more common to crews aboard more specialized ships. Broadly, most Constellation-Class fall under the auspices of the Exploration Command (SEC) and, like all Explorers, a posting to one is seen as a plum assignment by those seeking a lifetime in space but even more-so given the command crew's veto power over their roster.
