Description I took a stab at sketching Blackjack to get used to drawing her with different angles and expressions. I think I've gotten better at drawing characters, at least compared to my previous work. I'm trying to develop my own style of drawing ponies, but it's not nailed down quite yet. Constructive criticism is invited, anything you think I can do better to improve the style I'm trying to create, or that you think I'm doing well and shouldn't change, is appreciated in the comments.

It's very nicely done

I like the shotgun, Is your own design of it?

Only that... maybe (just maybe) the raised hoof is a little bit rigid. Looks extrange for me.

But way better than your previous works, indeed.

Looking good, Im diggin the fulpose Blackjack, especially the shoulderline, gives her a bit more form. The gun looking pretty badass too, I wonder if ponies have some superstrong teeth or something cause a kick from something like that would knock em out otherwise. As for constructive critisism, rememeber the 3D space, her rump is looking very flat compared to the rest of her body, aswell as the foreshortening of the front left leg on the fulpose model is a teeny bit of. Thats just me trying to find things though, overall they look fantastic, I hope you're able to nail them down to the style you are looking for.

Thank you, both very valid observations, I'll try to correct them in future sketches. I'm fairly certain most ponies' teeth are strong as hell, because firing a gun from the mouth no matter what caliber, size, or configuration wouldn't be viable otherwise. I'm more concerned about the head and face, they've always been the hardest for me to draw.

You did an excellent job keeping her horn small and making her hair work. Red and black stripes are hard to convey in black and white pencil, but you pulled it off alright. ^^

However, and this is just sort of a pet peeve, Blackjack is a strong character. You've made her super skinny, and I doubt she'd be able to do half the stuff she does if she was underweight. Now, this may just be your art style, but it always seemed to me that Blackjack would have thick, strong legs and a thick barrel (body). Again, it's a personal thing, so if this is how you intended to draw her, I honestly can't say you have it wrong since we're never really told how thin or thick she is.

Excellent work. ^^

Thank you for the detailed and helpful reply. Yeah, I tried to make her a little taller and lankier than most ponies, her starting strength is a 6, so not ridiculously bulky- I wanted her to look athletic. But those legs do look a little thin, so in future versions I'll thicken them.
