Description
Yet another vent piece about both dA's policies and women being objectified in mass media.I cannot stress enough how frustrating it is seeing images on here with women having their butts hang out for all the world to see. A lot of the time when I go to report for not having a mature tag, the site won't allow me due to a closed case stating that "the reason was invalid" or "a member of the site has viewed this and decided that it does not need a mature tag." Really, dA? You won't allow for a man's penis to even be SEEN on here yet when women's boobies and asses flap in the breeze, it's completely okay? Also note the amount of inflation for both genders that don't have a mature tag (don't get me started. I've seen things that I wish to unsee....).
Now for mass media in general, I understand that it's been happening since the term "Sex Sells" emerged, but seeing it almost everywhere I look and go? It's a bit much. Examples would include book covers, movies & tv shows, social networks (specifically Tumblr), music videos, misleading thumbnails (i.e. YouTube), video games (i.e. armor upgrades in which she's basically wearing a metal bikini) and advertisements. Need I say more about how disgusting it is from a sensible woman's point of view?
Now if you women wanna flash your junk around, go to a club or a rave for that kind of stuff or seek a modeling profession for Playboy. This is an art website. Not a porn site. Take your fetishes elsewhere or keep them private. That's my advice.
EDIT: I'm well aware that there is a Mature Filter on dA. I forgot to add the part where I was also frustrated for the fact that some of these types of images bypass the Mature Filtering system and even if they have been reported, most of the time dA will accept the image as it is and say that it doesn't need a Mature Tag. I personally have my Mature Filter ON so you do not need to tell me set it up.
Also a while back, I made a post in the Suggestion Forums of the dA site so you can check it out here: support.deviantart.com/entries…

No, it had one, but even though it was against the rules to have vaginal spreading (which was in the picture) it was a closed case. -_-

I can agree with you on some levels of this. but there are many things you need to take into consideration.
1. DA is not that good of a site anymore. It may be the most popular of sites that features art. But in later years it has gone down hill.
2. The term "Sex Sells" wasn't just made by big business because it brings more revienew. Its because people are attracted to it more. So its everyone's fault.
3.DA does allow close ups at man junk. Its hard too find because its not posted on this site as much compared to woman posting their junk.
4. Sex in Books, movies ,and tv is all part of that persons imagination. Why can't there be sex in a book, or a movie, or a tv show. Because I'm pretty sure the people having the sex. Are a man and a woman. So its not all one sited.
5. Video games have every right to sex up any type of clothe or character in THEIR game. Whether it be a woman or even a male character. There shouldn't be a problem because games with that nature of skimpy clothes are usually "M" rated or "T" witch is acceptable. And again. these characters and clothes ae part of someones elses hard earned time and imagination. And to call it sexest or total shit, is very biest and insensitive. Because who are you to say some ones ideas should be better.
6.Woman have every right to post what they want in this site. whether it be art or not. And thats the problem with DA. It takes art stuff and complete garbage as well.
7. And if someones art gets past the filter and its nudity. then you have a right to complain. But that only happens the filter off, or you directly search for naked woman.

Thank you.
On a side note, you bring up some VERY good points. Though one thing I need to say is that I know I don't have the right to tell people what ideas should be better. All I was doing was calling attention to an ongoing phenomenon.

1. I don't show my chest in public for obvious reasons. It's called courtesy and common sense.
2. This statement is to the point where it's so extreme that it misses the entire point of this picture.

I think it really depends on the piece. Yea those butt pics I see everyday aren't exactly flattering cuz they're out there in the masses. Like if it was one butt every other month or so then I could care less. But if there pieces that show nudity but its clearly a anatomy thing or to show the beauty of the human body then I don't see anything wrong with it. Hell. I drew my husband and wife characters cuddling g in the nude to show the beauty between a married couple. I mean with most pieces you can tell what its trying to perceive nudity wise. Its obvious when its more pornographic. Overall nudity in a piece doesn't mean its porn or degrading to women (or men even).

I feel like some people use this sight to show of their goods in order to feel better about themselves. There's a big difference becoming famous on a world wide art sight ,then on a random porn sight where every girl has a nice ass. It's like hey, I want attention but I want this type attention only. It's less shameful in this controversial society... Butt (<- punny heh) on the other hand, a part of why we all post our art here is to also feel better about ourselves. The sweet comments people leave and the favorites we get, really gives off this self confidence boost too and we feel appreciated. So when I see girls post ass pictures , all I can think is wow I guess they really need it. Any girl can do it. But what really fucking infuriates the shit out of me is how deviant always ignores the missing mature tags on these pictures. Like hey Deviant please don't fucking discriminate. If there's lady asses, WHY CANT THERE BE GUY ASSES! I have to unlock the mature content settings for this!Guys have awesome asses too and I have seen beautiful guy asses on this sight, but never on the main feed. I'm just asking for equality. This means putting a mature tag on everyones nudes or none at all. Why bother having a mature tag, if it only applies to the less popular deviants.

I agree and am so tired of this bull crap I see on the front page trying to sell itself as art. We don't just have guys drawing the worst depictions of women, but we have girls visually prostituting themselves proudly like it's nothing. It's gotten to the point where if someone were to ask me, I could name several off of the top of my head, and it worries me. I too have filed a complaint, suggesting that there be a "flag as inappropriate" button, but do you know what the mod told me? He said that such a button "could be abused." What a transparent excuse. It is so easy to put a couple of bandages on your nipples and a piece of floss along your crevice and post it online, forgoing the mature tag in favor of a larger audience, and audience I might add that can be as young as eight or so. I have joked on occasion that Deviantart be renamed, "Pronhub Junior."
Thank you so much for posting this.

Well, nobody is taking photos of YOUR ass.
But other women have the choice to bare out their asses if they so please. Some even find it empowering.
Your not the only person on this site and other people have different likes, dislikes, and sensibilities that are different than yours. Millions of people reside on this site. Not just you.
Who are you to define what "art" is?

Gosh, I know what you mean. I may not be feminist or anti-feminist but I can entirely sympathize with you on this topic. I joined dA when I was 15 and immediately turned on the Mature Filter. It didn't shut out *A LOT* of the crazy sex-obsessed stuff. I mean, I can appreciate a body in art so long as it is well done and actually shows artistic skill, but I don't want to see it EVERYWHERE. I come to dA to get inspiration for my own art, not to look at blatant porn or 'almost porn'.
The amount of fetish art I come across on dA unintentionally is unbelievable. I still have my Mature filter on but everyday I glance at the 'What's Hot' or 'Recent Art' I ALWAYS see some odd thing sexualized. My Little Pony, for example. I honestly wouldn't care about people uploading this stuff if ONLY they were putting it under the Mature Filter.
Some days when I want to relax and just look at art for the sake of looking at art I avoid the 'What's Hot' and all the 'public' places of dA and go favorites-searching on my favorite artists. Its one of the more reliable ways to just enjoy art without the possibility of stumbling across something I really didn't want to see or think about. But nobody should have to do that.
It is starting to become more and more like FurAffinity. And the only reason I found that site is because I thought it would be fun to look at sweet little anthromorphic animals wearing cute clothes. I was pretty darn wrong.

Personnally I don´t really understand why people still coming to devintart to Saw nude women, I would say to go to watch a page for that, but you need to recognize that in internet the freedom to express is very big, and the art is seemed like that, and this page have so much of art that you can go and search, share or read good art, so dont get much atention on this, is has ever existed and I think it would be existing more.

It seems that nowadays in deviantart, there are two ways to become successful, either make something amazingly skillful, our something sexy and showy. Honestly I'm okay with pictures of women in a PROFESSIONAL manner where the aim is to create art. But where I draw the line is where pictures of certain bodily areas in an unprofessional manner, and somehow these 2 minute works become more popular that someone spending 8 hours on a painting. When I look for pictures of women is usually as a reference for my drawings, how the heck am I going to accurately draw an arm when the only thing in the picture is an ass?

Agreed. There is an artful way to take meaningful nude portraits as well as a polite way to show them to people who wish to view them. There will always be those who are unaware of either.

Honestly it's ignorant of you to say that the pictures of those women aren't art. The models in said pictures have to work very hard to achieve their figure and maintain it. Also a lot of those pictures come in high quality and are taken with specific cameras and are set up a certain atmosphere by manipulating hues, lighting, etc. That being said I agree with the whole penis thing and some of them not being regulated is bullshit. I also kinda am sick of some chick's ass being spread on the front page. But that's just me. If I had my way there would be no MLP, Kill la Kill, or anime shipping fanart. But what I want isn't what everyone else should want.
Also nudity of an attractive model is not always objecting them

What frustrates me the most as an artist is not only the objectification of women on dA, but it's the fact that they call their nudity "art" when it's so contorted. It's one thing to transform your body with paints and fabrics and end up revealing some skin, but there was CREATIVITY put into it, (I hope that makes sense, because I know the body is a temple, a work of art in general, and I strongly promote body positivism, but not in this fashion!). Slapping on a bathing suit and showing off "Ms. Sexy's" hot, rad rack while she poses over some rocks in a very promiscuous pose? That isn't art. It's things like that which make it difficult for the real artists, whether it be traditional media, photographers, or even models, to get their work out here on display because the focus point on this site is too busy drooling over these busty, revealing sections of the site.

Fucking. Thank you. I couldn't agree more with this! I have my damn filter on so I don't see women's anus' and them spreading their legs WIDE OPEN and calling it "art" yet there it all is, sitting on my front page. People use the excuse "well if you don't like it then don't look at it/click it!" I don't fucking click it's just there when I'm scrolling down and it's there as a thumbnail and it's 80% of the front page! isn't that what the filter was originally for? to NOT see it unless I DID CLICK ON IT? And I'm not against nude art by any means, but there is a HUGE difference between a woman artistically creating this picture while being nude but in a sense where you can say "wow this is beautiful" like, they add silk/ribbons, scenery, a story with it without being totally exposed. And then on the other hand there's this chick in a G-string bending with all her junk hanging out.
I don't know... I just cringe at the sight of "what's hot" anymore. And trying to scroll down to look at art then suddenly a big ass appears while someone is around you lol. "Are you sure this is an art site....?" "......yes."
