Description Spiritual depth develops over a lifetime. It is a long and steady process, with times of growth intermingled with stretches of both stress and boredom.

Psalms 62.

(Incidentally, The Gimp works really well at erasing stray text off a page scanned out of a sketchbook...Β  )

Great work! I especially love the little root hairs on the bottom. As if it is never going to stop growing.

It was very interesting to draw, as the lines got finer and finer.Β  Like some of your patterns, the drawing takes on a life of its own and starts guiding you where to draw...

Drawing is a magical process, funny how sometimes even the artist cannot influence what the result will be likeΒ Β

Not sure if it's "cannot influence" so much as, having the wisdom (and confidence) to let the drawing take you to places where you might not have planned... Β

Sometimes that might even be very uncomfortable places, but that may be an opportunity to shed light in some dark corner of your soul....

I can see your point - and you're right, it's important to visit such places once in a while.

Yes, as long as you bring along your safety rope... Β  (It's good to have another person walking into that place with you -- someone to bail you out if you lose your footing.)

I'll make sure to have one! And maybe one day there will be someone willing to enter this strange world with me...

'Tis a priceless gift to simply walk along side another, to simply take the time to listen and hear their heart... Β

Heheh... Actually, sometimes you just let yourself get into the zone, and the pencil almost guides itself.Β  Since this was drawn from my imagination rather than trying to draw from a reference, it's more a matter of following the drawing as it develops, keeping the balance, but avoiding *too* much order or symmetry, letting the lines direct themselves, shading where necessary, but not too much shadow, letting the white gently lift some of the areas out of the shadows to create a sense of volume.

As pearwood said, this is a theme I've come back to many times over the years, so it's had some time to develop some depth and richness.Β

Interesting point, as I'm sitting here looking up at the large tree drawing I did back in High School.Β  Too bad I didn't put a date on it.Β  But... it does have a very similar theme (if upsidedown... )

Yes.Β  The roots are hanging rather than spreading.
