Description NEW!!!: Tutorial on how to attach cat ears to various items: [link]

My first tutorial! I made this method up, so I thought I'd share. (I'm sure someone's thought of it before though.) I hope it's easy to understand. If I misspelled anything or something sounds weird, just let me know.

So I made these cat ears for my Cat Returns cosplay and when I was done, I thought to make a tutorial. The ear in the early pictures is a felt one I did real quick for pictures. My final product ended up being in fleece. And now they look lopsided on the wig. Gah. I haaated sewing them to the wig.

Pattern: [link]
Forgive me, I have no idea what size this will turn out to be. >> But it's easy enough to resize it.

Also, I would love to see any ears made with this!

I'm probably the biggest idiot in the world, but, how do you sew the ears on a wig?

Valid question! I actually had a tutorial I was looking at, but it seems to be down. D: So I'll try to explain!

Put the ear right where you want it on the wig and hold it in place. Then turn the wig inside out so you can see the wefts.[link] See the black part with the brown stitches? That's what you're going to want to sew it to most.

[link] and this is what it looks like on the outside. Wow I'm sorry if that didn't help at all. >> I will probably end up making a tutorial on various methods of attachment.

I think a tutorial would be awesome. I have a bow, so it would work similar to the ears, and a horn to put on my wig, and haven't seen anything on how to do that.

I've been keeping this in my messages for about a month to remind myself to make an attachment tutorial. As soon as I get home from AX I will do it! Sorry, I've been busy!

Ohh, you cosplay Remus too? Awesome! I actually made a pair for mine using this with fake fur and it works just the same. :3 (just a note, because I think the tutorial still says I am unsure of other materials, I need to fix that.) And I would love to see them when you're done!

so you don't stff them with fluff?
all you need to do is fold?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ObsessedXShipper In reply to o0Joke0o [2011-02-13 03:37:49 +0000 UTC]

Fleece sticks up pretty good by itself and so does faux fur and felt. Anything else you might need to stuff with something, just not too much.

I think I might use this for my Ikuto cosplay Any suggestions for how to attach them to hair pins? o3o

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ObsessedXShipper In reply to InuKid [2011-01-16 00:59:06 +0000 UTC]

What kind of hair pins? I made some ears and attached them to clips like this: [link] so I could take a few pictures of what I did.

But if you were thinking of different kinds of pins, send me a picture and I could figure it out!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

InuKid In reply to ObsessedXShipper [2011-01-16 02:52:28 +0000 UTC]

Actually, those hair clips look like they'd be much easier to attach to than what I was thinking of(bobby pins) XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ObsessedXShipper In reply to InuKid [2011-01-16 03:53:25 +0000 UTC]

Ohh, yeah I've never tried using bobby pins.

Unfortunately, my camera does not feel like taking pictures today (I did take some.. but they didn't save? Weird) but I think it's easy enough to explain.

When you open up the clip there is one pointy thing that sticks out and there's the frame for the pointy thing. You're gonna want to sew the frame to the ear. I have the clip running along the side of the ear that touches my hair and pointing down. This probably won't stick in your hair unless you have a pony tail or are using a wig. I'm using it for a wig, so I just stick it in the wefts.

If you want it to stick in your hair, experiment with the clip a little to see which way it sticks best before you put the ears on.

Hope that helped! And it made me think I should make a tutorial on attachment, so I think I'll start working on one. :3

InuKid In reply to ObsessedXShipper [2011-01-16 22:25:53 +0000 UTC]

That might help XD; 'cause one of my friends suggested sewing a pipe cleaner into the bottom of the ears and idk if that would affect the attachment process any unless I were to just glue it to the clips like she suggested o3o

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ObsessedXShipper In reply to InuKid [2011-01-17 01:39:55 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, what would you use the pipe cleaner for?

And I would suggest against glue. Sewing is less messy!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

InuKid In reply to ObsessedXShipper [2011-01-18 04:52:41 +0000 UTC]

She suggested to shape them to be open.

lol we'll see XD I'm going to wait until I have my wig to start on the ears anyway so I can try to match the color XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ObsessedXShipper In reply to InuKid [2011-01-18 05:43:38 +0000 UTC]

Ohh.

And if you use a wig, you can just sew them in! Unless you don't want it to be permanent, in that case clips are good.

Good luck!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

InuKid In reply to ObsessedXShipper [2011-01-18 06:08:30 +0000 UTC]

Definately don't want them to be permanent since the character I'm cosplaying doesn't have them all the time XD

Thanks :3
