Raistlin Majere. Who was born sickly compared to his physical peak twin brother. He studied magic, and planned at try and become a god, so at least he'd never need to depend on anyone, ever again. (He only backed down when he found out his scheme would destroy the world and sacrificed himself to close the portal he himself had opened to challenge the goddess of darkness for her throne.)Β

Raistlin is definitely one of my favorite Dragonlance characters. During the original trilogy, it was really obvious that Raistlin was Margaret Weis' character. Incidentally, Tracy Hickman's was Tasslehoff Burrfoot (sorry if I misspelled the name, I haven't read those books in years). Raistlin, Caramon and Tasslehoff were definitely some of the best characters, which is why they dropped pretty much everyone else for the "Twins" trilogy, which I really loved. His dynamic with Caramon was extremely well done, especially with the admission that Caramon, albeit not consciously, likes being stronger and/or protecting his physically weaker brother. It's really an excellent series.

I'l admit Raistlin was a bit of an influence when I designed Martin, at least in my later writings.

Vivian's is adorable! One big fiendish family! It's sweet that she includes his sister in it too. And very interesting that hers seems to be a bit better thought out than Elisabeth's. I mean, still not very well thought out, but at least hers goes beyond the short-term.
I love the fact that Tulip crashed the party! Sorry I forgot you, sweetie!
Nadia is a genius. That's an extremely clever way to go about it, make him fix himself! Though Martin's reaction to it is _really_ genius. Very good point about her being a hypocrite.
Saya and Maya's solution is cute and makes me think they'd make a great team. Grumpy little Martha is just about the cutest thing ever.

Most of all though Martin's reaction is really interesting, and Victoria's reaction is even more so. Poor kids, I feel like being good at seeing problems but bad at solving them must run in their family...

Thanks for this! I feel like I should ask some questions to let Martin have fun, to make up for all of this heavy stuff I'm making him think about Β

Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed seeing this one. It was definitely a fun one to answer.

I enjoyed making Vivian's solution surprisingly well thought out. When it comes to dealing with evil people, she tends to get more interested in it. Vivian does have some subconscious jealously of Elizabeth's sister, and she used this answer to fix that. Vivian is definitely honest about how she wants to see it play out, although the reality might be far different.

Tulip isn't angry about it at all. She's definitely not out seeking revenge right now...

Yeah, Nadia's definitely intelligent, and her plan is actually probably the least actively harmful towards Martin. That said, Martin sees a lot of his own flaws in Nadia, and especially hates her hypocrisy, so he wouldn't go with that plan mostly out of spite. And you're definitely right, grumpy little Martha is the cutest thing on this page.

I enjoyed writing Victoria's reaction as well. While she's more well-adjusted then Martin, she certainly has her own flaws.

Ha ha, feel free to ask more questions if you like. I've consistently had a lot of fun answering what you come up with.

I'm a fan of Nadia's. Β I know Martin's not a huge fan, but, really, he doesn't lose anything. Β He decides against helping people, and his power drops back to normal. Β The end. Β No gender changes, no horrible mind-and-soul altering curses, just power with a free pass.

Odachi65 In reply to burlap2020 [2017-04-12 05:27:04 +0000 UTC]

You're right in that it's definitely the best option overall. Martin is partially letting his distaste for Nadia's hypocrisy color his judgement. He sees a lot of Nadia's flaws in himself, so he refuses what would overall be a fine option primarily out of spite.

Victoria's Fix

Well Vivian is certainly over optimistic of Martin's treatment. Β I'd say he has a chance at adoption, but only if Vivian were the one to do the transforming and even then he'd likely end up as the younger sister in the relationship. Β Tulip's idea was probably the simplest and I was surprised that he found that to be the worst of the group. Β Nadia offered him power at the cost of having to grow as a person which actually isn't all that bad of a deal because he still gets to chose his fate, and contrary to his opinion of the situation he wouldn't really be a controlled by it as "a man chooses, a slave obeys". Β The twins actually gave him a fairly bad deal as nowhere did they say that they'd transform Victoria and let her stay with Martha. Β Additionally, the way they worded their solution only guarantees that he'd be given a loving set of parents, not that he'd be reunited with his mother so he could very well be given a new set altogether. Β So given that he could be forever separated from his sister I would have ranked that one lower. Β As for Elizabeth while no doubt entertaining to watch the idea that his actions would only effect him wouldn't spur Martin to change his ways fast enough. Β However if one was to change the curse ever so slightly so that his actions would transform his sister instead he'd learn his lesson faster by placing the existence of another in his hands with the knowledge that his sister would pay the price of his crimes instead of himself.

Also how does he rate the old plans to fix him to the new ones.

Odachi65 In reply to MKalut [2017-04-12 04:48:00 +0000 UTC]

Vivian is very immature, so her having an overly optimistic take on the situation only makes sense. She has a very unique view of her parents, since they've treated her very nicely all her life, and it colors her perception on how they'd treat others.

Β As for Tulip, it was certainly the simplest, but since she's somewhat simple-minded it only made sense. Tulip's option is the only one here which will, without a shadow of a doubt, remove his mind and most likely remove his sister from his life. For that reason alone, it ranks the lowest.

For Nadia's option, it honestly is the best deal, but Martin's spite made him rank it lower than he should've. Martin is extremely critical of everyone around him, and he is especially critical of Nadia. He has an intense dislike of hypocrisy, which he believes she embodies...though he fails to see the hypocrisy in himself. Nadia, at least to him, reveals many of his own personal flaws, so he's unusually aggressive towards her.

For the Twins, I had intended to specify that Victoria would be there, but unfortunately I ran out of space on the picture, which is a problem of this format. I like to imagine the thought of his father being in his life again would somewhat cloud his judgement. Once that became an option, it would be awfully tempting for him, and he likely didn't even consider that Victoria might not be a part of his life in that case. He associated "having my parents" with "having my entire family", which may or may not be a faulty assumption. I like to think he was especially enticed by the idea of Victoria meeting both of their parents, so for him that would be the best option.

You're probably right about Elizabeth's option, but Elizabeth, ditzy child that she is, wouldn't consider that. Even if she was more intelligent, she would never actually put someone an innocent person's life on the line just to treat a jerk a lesson. You are correct that it would be far more effective, but she wouldn't see it as an option.

As for a full ranking, I'll include it in a separate comment.

Honestly surprised Martn isn't more excited at the prospect of joining the family of a Demon Lord. I wonder what Sidny would have to go through to be recognized as demon nobility.Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

Odachi65 In reply to alexwarlorn [2017-04-12 04:32:19 +0000 UTC]

On Martin's end, it's not that he wasn't excited about the oppourtunity, it's more his innate cynicism kicking in. Martin believes there's no way they'd just adopt him out of the blue, and he believes he'd end up as nothing more than a slave. He'd rather not take that risk, even if the possible gains are tremendous. Martin is normally rather risk-averse and cautious (or you could call it cowardly), so he's not willing to bet on a demonic child's word. Especially considering Vivian has proven to be delusional in the past.

For Sidney, she'd be in the same position as most other demons. She'd have to find a way to earn a place in hell's nobility. Normally, that includes ruling over a portion of hell, and interacting with demonic politics. She would have many avenues to pursue in that regard. A particular impressive service to an existing Demon Lord might have that lord grant a noble title, and likely some accompanying land. If Sidney were to assassinate a lord and take control of his lands, she'd also become a noble. She could also outmaneuver rivals politically, or conquer an untamed portion of hell for herself. She'd have plenty of options if she wanted to focus on it.
