It def takes some patience and willingness not to take the short cuts. =3 No problem!

Haha, my OC Du Jour in progress!
This is quite helpful, I haven't grasped masks quite yet.

I don't know some of the other masks at all, cuz they confuse me, but clipping masks are quite easy to learn and are fun. =3 Keeps your work all clean cut and stuff too, which is nice.

Aah! I remember I tried doing this in CS5 by hitting ctrl+g, because doing that in CS basically does the same thing here... but ctrl+g in CS5 was a completely different function. I was so confused @.@
What version of photoshop are you using here?

looked up a shortcut guide and on it, ctrl+g is Group and to apply the clipping mask is ctrl+alt+g

You can always customize short cut keys as well, under Edit->keyboard shortcuts (which I've done and it's quite handy xB).

Ohh, okay. It seemed like the clipping mask served the same sort of function as layer grouping. I tried doing a clipping mask in CS5 because I don't know the command to do a layer group in that program, but it ended up not working out the way I wanted it to.

Thank you very much!

No problemo! I had a similar thing happen when I upgraded from 7 to CS2. lol. I was like 'er...' xD;

Glad to help!

Oh, this is in CS2. Yeah, they change the functions sometimes which is super annoying. xD;; I didn't know the actual shortcut via key stroke, so I just showed the way through the layer itself.

Dude did you draw that piece just for this tutorial? xDDDD

lol, no.
It's this piece here: [link]
Because I had used the clipping mask on the piece, it was easy to just use it for the tut.
