Specificity:
smallest space station of the Golden League
forms the first stage of stationary defence measures in all solar systems of the League
in each system of the league, there are a large number of Duon station spread throughout the respective system,
each Duon station is placed at a strategic point and thus together form a relatively dense defence and surveillance network
despite their classification as space stations, the Duon-class units are in practice more like satellites
intelligence scans of the Jaffa Empire show that the space stations do have space for a crew
but these rooms are clearly not intended for permanent accommodation of a crew
the same applies to the hangar
the hangar can accommodate up to two squadrons.
but here, too, the equipment of the hangar only indicates that the Ka' Ta Interceptor will be housed for a very limited period of time
observations by Jaffa Empire intelligence units indicate that the Duon stations serve as stopovers, supply points and emergency bases for patrolling Ka' Ta squadrons.
the Ka'Ta patrols always start their patrols from their bases on the respective planet in the system and then fly from station to station, so that they fly through the system once completely
they supply themselves with fuel and other consumables on board the Duon stations and then immediately take off again
a longer stay only takes place if a patrol lasts longer than one day
then the pilots spend the night aboard the Duon station
the pilots have to look after their interceptors themselves during these stops, as there are no technical ground staff on board the Duon stations either
apart from these short-timed visitors, the stations are completely automated, although there appears to be a small control room for the crew to control a Duon station
analyses suggest that these stations are usually controlled by the computer, which is programmed to "shoot first, talk later"
the control room is probably primarily for maintenance purposes
the offensive and defensive equipment of the Duon stations corresponds to the standard of the league
particle beam weapons based on Al'ie technology found by the League, as well as a torpedo launcher
the torpedo launcher appears to be a modified version of the launcher used on League warships
the modifications concern the automation, the possibility to turn and a slightly longer range of the torpedo used
Despite the weakness of the League's weapon systems, which is to be expected from simulations, these stations/satellites should not be underestimated.
the relatively large number of turrets combined with the large number of these space stations compensates for the weak energy output of the particle weapons and leads to a significant increase in firepower when the stations are clustered for an attack on a target
but the biggest disadvantage is that the league obviously does not know the concept of hyperspace jammer
at least none of the known units in the league, mobile or stationary, has a hyperspace jammer
this represents an unusual and massive tactical and strategic disadvantage for the Golden League
so that spaceships can easily make a direct approach in hyperspace to the orbit of a League planet
why the League does not use hyperspace jammers, which are the galaxy-wide standard in planetary defence in the 4th century AJR (24th century AD), could not be determined
Supplementary analysis based on information gathered after the occupation of the planet Danara in the course of the "Savage Wraith" crisis at the turn of the year 370/371 AJR (2375/2376 AD):
during the Battle of Danara, the Duon stations proved to be extremely limited in their performance
as it turned out, the Duon stations were not so much for defence against foreign attackers, but rather for "defence against internal enemies".
this means that these stations were actually used to put down uprisings
and the main task of the Duon stations was to fire on the space stations and colonies they were supposed to "protect" when they received the appropriate order from Danara
then they fired at previously programmed targets on the respective planet/moon/space station, mostly large civilian settlements
the Duon stations were also intended to prevent escape attempts by slaves
for this purpose, special transponders were implanted in the slaves of the League
the Duon stations reacted to the signal of these transponders and automatically fired at any ship from which such a signal came
for defence against an external enemy, however, the Duon stations were only suitable to a very limited extent,
their programming included only very rudimentary combat protocols for use against enemy warships
so that the automatic system could easily be overwhelmed by a larger number of enemy ships,
especially with many small, fast and manoeuvrable targets such as fighters or bombers, the computers of the Duon stations were quickly overwhelmed
from the point of view of military strategy, the positioning of the Duon stations in the League's solar system was also not for use against foreign powers, but for maximum control of their own population
the defence network had large gaps by military standards
for these reasons, the Duon stations were then also equipped with control rooms
during an attack on a League solar system, troops were brought aboard Duon stations via ring transporters
then the League warriors manually took control of the Duon space stations,
only then could the Duon stations be used more or less effectively for the defence
this defence concept failed almost completely during the "Savage Wraith" crisis, as the imperial Jaffa and their allies managed to blockade the League's ring transporters for the most part
in order to be able to use the stations seriously for defence, the Golden League first had to send alternative programmes to the station computers due to the lack of manual control
this took time, however, and by the time the new programme was received and put into operation, most of the Duon stations had already been destroyed
only those space stations directly in orbit around Danara itself could be manned by the League
in the beginning, these manned Duon stations actually caused the Allies some problems
Senun'Nai Isis VII had given the order to keep the losses on the League side as low as possible
therefore these manned Duon stations could not simply be destroyed with long-range bombardment, as had happened with the automatic Duon units
but due to the lack of hyperspace jammers, the allies were able to carry out hit-and-run attacks against the League's defensive stations without putting their own pilots in too much danger.
It was also helpful that the target tracking sensors of the "Artaru Ru" medium pulse particle ship turrets were not designed for use against small, fast and moving targets
the "Arjaf Ru" CIWS pulse particle ship turrets, on the other hand, were not powerful enough to pose a threat to a Hokumat Shekare ASC, let alone a Jaffa-imperial Qu'Tal'Kesh corvette
why the Golden League did not use hyperspace jammers was later clarified by interviews with members of the Ya Armeka
in the beginning, this concept was indeed completely unknown to the league
after the "discovery" of this technology, the Ya Armeka, who were still loyal at that time, had stolen a Katasha satellite from the Jaffa Empire, this technology was rejected on religious grounds
hyperspace was considered sacred because it was believed to be the abode of the Goa'uld, the "plane of the gods",
so a faster-than-light flight through hyperspace was considered a sacred act, as you could not get closer to the gods than when you were in hyperspace
and a "disturbance" of the "divine plane" was therefore of course completely out of the question
fortunately, the League had not understood or had misunderstood the technical-scientific side of the hyperspace jammers
the League actually believed that hyperspace itself would be manipulated by the hyperspace jammer
and did not realise that this technology only interferes with/manipulates the sensors of a spaceship in hyperspace(most of the time, anyway)
