Dumbledore, as a character, is critical as an exposition tool for the author. He can explain anything and you accept that he would know. Hermione fulfills a similar function at the kid's own level.

Anyway, Dumbledore's sexual orientation matters not. His role in the stories is completely asexual.

As an aside... *POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT* I have problems believing Dumbledore would make the mistake with the cursed object as described in "Hallows". It is out of character. However, I agree that, because of his role of all-knowing exposition tool, Dumbledore had to die and leave our characters without a fall-back power. D's death is critical to the character development of the kids.

Any hoo ha, I hope people are not complaining about Bill and Fleur, or Lupen and Tonks, or Ron and Herminone, or Harry and Ginny. Really. It's Rowling's story. If she says that's the way it is, then that is how it is. Deal with it.
*END SPOILER ALERT*

Indeed, even if knowing such thing can come as quite a shock for many a fan of old Dumby (I was rather surprised, even if I know his sexuality plays no part in the plot, not even when we analyze those who managed to befriend him, like Grindelwald)

And regarding that part... I was moved by it. He was a genious, but he fully demonstrated in the Sixth book that he commits mistakes and that he's got feelings (specially when we take into account those memories that tormented his mind).

Ha ha ha...wait, Dumbledore's gay? Whoa, didn't see that one! XD

Thankfully, most of the Harry Potter books came out before I was a rabid gayness fangirl. I think it was either six or seven when the two things coincided, and there wasn't much subtext to read either, with all the dark clouds of darkness rolling in...anyway, one of my friends, who got me started as a GF, read so much of the subtext she said it ruined the books for her XD

I don't really see anything in the books, although the movies are like, dang. Everyone's trying to seduce Harry and each other.

That's...whoa...XD.

THAT MAKES IT GAY FANGIRLS:1, SOCIETY IN GENERAL: 86,294! And I laughed at the comment "Just imagine the fan fiction now."

I didn't catch anything in the books or the movies-I was too mesmorized by the special effects in the movies. XD

I normally don't look for that stuff, but I just had to read a slashfan's review of the 4th movie before seeing it, so it was all really apparent when I saw it myself. XD

fun fact: the actor who plays Dumbledore in the newest movie (I can't remember his name, sorry >.< is gay.

Culf In reply to MadameRuby [2007-10-27 22:39:43 +0000 UTC]

No, he's not. His name is Michael Gambon, and even if he claimed to be gay in an interview once, it's not true. He always lies in interviews. He also said he had to give up being gay in that interview because it made his eyes water.

He's been married to the same woman since the 60s, and he couldn't care less what people think about him, so he wouldn't hide it if he was gay.
He mentions lying about being gay in this interview: [link]
I'm not sure why I'm bothering with this argument, because his sexual orientation doesn't matter to his acting at all.

ProngsPadfootMoony In reply to Culf [2009-02-08 00:41:53 +0000 UTC]
