Description
So, just like the show, Aku rains death down on everyone, the 300 and 1, and Scottsman’s daughters even are looking like they will die, and some of them are wounded to the point of it.Aku cackles in victory as the last piece of the puzzle is laid waste at his feet, Ashi is about to deliver the final blow to Jack.
It’s then that like in the show, his words “I love you” trigger something in her to find strength enough to resist him. She defends Jack and counters Aku with his own power.
She regains the sword for Jack and creates a portal in time upon the revelation of the ability to wield darkness like he can.
Aku tries to stop him but he slashes him hurting him, and…although Jack doesn’t notice it, Ashi winces as well, but ignores this.
Either way they both jump through the portal.
But Aku noticed, and as they vanish, in thought, he finally cackles again, knowing what’s to come. He knows he still will win, even in the past.
“Foolish Samurai!” he bellows as the rest of the legions of the resistance look up at him in confusion as to what he means, except for Scottsman; The Scottsman spoke to Jack of who has his heart, and knows what waits Jack in the past.
Scottsman:“Oh…laddie….” he says in remorse.
Jack and Ashi arrive in the past moments after Aku has banished the previous Jack, shocked at his soon return.
They do battle again, this time on the roof tops of the castle Aku has possessed, and Ashi fights with him.
Aku:“What?” -while fighting- “Who is this ingrate….who dares challenge me…along with you- ? I can tell by your scent you are a creature of mine!”
Ashi:“I am Ashi, and you will not wield me any longer, I am free of your sorcery and your hold on me…”
Jack:“You will never hurt her again…”
He strikes Aku down to the ground again like he did all those years ago, at his mercy, no energy in him again for another time portal to cowardly escape his fate.
But…
Now, Aku realizes she is birthed of his black magic, and cackles victoriously, Ashi is confused but it chills Jack to the bone.
Aku:“No , but…YOU will, foolish Samurai…”
Jack’s hands shake holding the sword.
Ashi:“What? What is it?”
Aku:“He has realized, if you are indeed my daughter, from the future…however that came about…what will happen to you, if HE slays ME…”
Jack:“……………No….”
Aku:“Defeat me at the cost of the life of your friend…destroy her, she means nothing to me….but to you? HA! She means everything, I sense it with every shiver down your spine samurai….”
Jack roars loud enough to be heard across the valley.
Aku:“Ahahahahahaha! One way or another Samurai, I win. You have a choice to make…throw in with me….or let me escape to my own devices, far from here…and i will let her live in happiness with you…or condemn your friend whom you love to death…”
That’s where the ghost’s of his ancestors or the samurai appear again.
They tell him, do it anyway.
They say it was his time to FINALLY kill Aku, and fulfill his purpose but he refuses again, and they warn him if he doesn’t, if he refused as he did before which lost him his magic sword in the first place, Aku will still reign and all will be undone.
Jack:“my sword will not kill an innocent!”
Ancestor:“She is no innocent Jack, she is a killer and part of Aku. Lord of Darkness! It is the only way:”
Jack:“No! It CANT be the only way, I won’t let it!”
Ancestor:“Has your time in the future filled you with such arrogance? Ungrateful one! You dishonor your fathers memory! Destroy Aku, restore balance to our world!”
Jack:“Arrogance? Arrogance! I was the one who gave up everything to learn to kill Aku, I was the one who went 50 years into the past and experienced the countless lives lost, trying to save "your world” as well as mine! Who lost my father, and my mother to this madness. I have been going mad for the sake of everyone and you call me ungrateful! You do not know my father if you believe questioning this would dishonor him!"
Female Ancestor:"Jack….your fathers sacrifice will still be in vain, all the same if you do not…”
Ashi puts a hand on his shaking shoulder.
Aku just chuckles to himself and begins to crawl away while he’s distracted.
Ashi:“Jack, it’s alright …I’m not worth it! Save the world…save your family…I’m part of Aku, they’re part of you, like your sword…”
Another portion of Aku forms a bow and aims it at Jack while he’s distracted.
Jack:“Your part of me too Ashi….I can’t - wait…that’s it!”
He suddenly springs into action. He slices the arrow in two, running full tilt after Aku. Aku tries to flee but Ashi, not missing a beat, uses her power to keep him steady.“
Aku:"No! Daughter! My child! What are you doing! Let me go! Release me or we will both die! We will cease to exiiiiiiiiiiiiiist-”
He’s struck down and banished from the world forever, and it resounds across Japan. Ashi wails and falls to the ground clutching her gut.
His tower falls , everyone cheers, Jack emerges from the ashes, everyone cheers louder.
“It’s Jack, he came back to the past!”
“The shoguns son has returned!”
“He saved us all!”
“There is his magic sword!”
“Hurrah for Jack!!”
But he runs past everyone carrying her weak body.
She gets weaker and weaker and wakes up on the back of a horse with him with the sky starry and dark above them.
Ashi:“You did it Jack…*cough* you killed Aku..you saved the past…*cough*.go back to your people, let me go…”
A bit of her fades.
Jack:“I vowed to not to kill just Aku, but to save everyone from his evil…that is what I will do now.”
She blacks out seeing her body fading a little more.
Finally She looks up and sees them in the temple where the sword was forged. He hold up the sword above her after putting her on the smithing alter.
The three Gods Appear.
Gods:“You have come to return the sword…or claim it for another time of need…”
Jack:“Neither.”
Gods:“What.”
Jack:“I do not relinquish it back to you.”
Vishnu God:“Your journey is done your mission is completed you have no need for it now.”
Set God:“it is not an item for decoration, for your hall of samurai, it is a living embodiment, and must be honored until called for again.”
Jack:“True, yet untrue, I still need it for one more thing. It is forged with the spirit of humanity, with the strength of my father, the love of my mother, and all our ancestors… in the end it was enough to save the world, and to slay Aku…”
Ashi:“Jack- *cough*…please…”
Jack:“….so it must be enough also, to replace him.”
Odin God:“You would give up the most priceless weapon on earth of unimaginable power, and good…”
Vishnu God:“When it could be used to prevent further dangers that may arise?”
Set God:”To win countless battles?”
Jack:“I would. It’s last sword swing will save a life, not take it.”
Set God:“….He truly is chosen…”
Odin God:“It is done…the darkness in her is now displaced with light that she may live…without it…”
-the sword turns with light and descends into Ashi as darkness seeps out of her and fades away like ash-
Gods:“Your sword will truly be by your side for all time.”
Jack holds her hand as she cries out shaking until the transfer and merging is complete.
Finally she opens her eyes, the glow in them leaving and turning to normal. She looks up at Jack.
Ashi:“….Jack….”
Jack:“It is fitting as you were the one who helped me to kill a Final blow to Aku. And were at my side and helped me find my way when it was not…”
We cut then to the wedding ceremony where she is walked down the Isle to the Daimyo Lord; Jack the Samurai who saved the world.
We pass by a tapestry depicting Jack as a child with his parents…and then One with him as the Lord, with Ashi, and their princes and princesses.
Finally we go outside to the hill under the same red leafed tree, where we find them old, and grey, holding out their hands for lady bugs.
END

Maybe not. Still, I liked how Samurai Jack's friends helped him fight Aku.

After all the crap that Jack went through after he final has everything he tried to get back from the begging of the series, only to lose one of the greatest thing he had gained from his journey...his love. The ending to this masterpiece of a show is bittersweet and as much as I would want Ashi and Jack to be together the way the show ended is the better ending in hindsight, its something that needed to be and the ending the show deserved. Mr. Tartakovsky you truly are one of the greatest mind for western animation. (As I say this the Russia National anthem plays slowly rises in volume and a firework display happens behind a image of Tartakovsky). www.youtube.com/watch?v=AOAtz8…

Oh as i stated, this is no disrespect to what the creators put together, and I'm one of the people who wanted Korra to tragically die in legend of Korra's finale to save the world in season 4, I like a good sad meaningful ending...but the way it was handled in samurai jack...felt lacking to me... if handled better or with more set up i think it would've hit it out of the park.
This is more me trying to implement another series full of tragedy and depth , that ends on a happy note when it could've very easily ended sad and dark: FMA Brotherhood.
Since it felt that S5's ending was emulating...GUrren Lagann....and frankly underdid itself as a finale , just as an episode, and that's my opinion entirely...although from what i've heard a good many agree to this point.
But again, if just tweaked a bit, I'd of been perfectly fine with the tragic ending

True but you have to consider that man only had 10 episodes to put an end to this. With what had, the man did a pretty good.

i said i think. I watched a video on youtube that said Rama but it could have been another... IDK the (I think) Hindu gods, but you definitely got the Egyptian one wrong. It's Ra (God of Light) not Set, god of... violence, He'd have joined Aku.
Now I'm off to make my own alternate ending. Keep an eye open for it. It'll contain an alternate Aku opening segment (IE the original opening for the show but a little different), some familiar caricatures, constants, and variables.

hold on a minute technically jack's past self that just got thrown into the future at the end of season 5 episode 10/season 1 episode 1 is going to end up in a furture that aku never influenced. so thair a chance that he mite evently meet that timelines Aishi and fall in love and stay in the furture because he will not need to return to the past because his job was already finshed for him.

I never really got into Samurai Jack when I was a kid. I kinda wish I had after seeing Season 5. I really like your ending here, since Ashi lives and she and Jack are able to have a family. I've got a romantic streak, I'll admit it here and now.

My main problem with how the ending is the fact it goes against what season 5 whole message "Not getting stuck in the past and moving forward.". The fact he actually goes back and saves everyone from Aku just screams "Yes you can change the past, but you also can't."

Throughout the season Jack was constantly reminded of the fact he "forgotten" his purpose with "angry Jack". The ghost Samurai there to haunt him of his past that he failed his ancestors.
Both he overcome pretty much stating the past doesn't define us and we have to keep moving forward. Even Aishi captures this she was raised to be Aku's assassin, but she realize the errors of her ways and change.
But with how he just travels back in time to make sure the future never happened. They could still make Aishi fading from existence to work, if they both realized that before traveling into the past. Plus it be more heartbreaking seeing as soon as they killed past Aku she slowly start fading and they say goodbye.

We all knew that the entire point of the show was for Jack to go back to the past. Everything in the show implied if not outright stated he was going to end up back in the past. If anything, the whole romance plot felt tacked on and kind of pointless except to make the already going to be sad ending feel more so.

Omnipotrent In reply to NobodyFamous [2017-05-30 00:31:49 +0000 UTC]
It's like they brought up the romance just to break his heart further, and I understand, but honestly that's what makes it feel tacked on. Jack has fallen for people or gotten attached before and visa versa, but never for more than one episode, and at the most two, and it was never intrinsic to his journey to save the past. but it was a great exploration of his character.
This one actually felt like Jack found some one who was the "one", and not just an episode length fling to build his character, she was the embodiment of what he wanted to save from Aku, demented humanity that is still pure and innocent and has never been given a fair shake...and was fragile but not defenseless, ignorant but not naive.
They created her, grafted them, then tour them apart...but because she was created ONLY for that...it makes that her only purpose.
Had they come to the same ending with perhaps a different handling of it, or , made it to where he and Ashi actually do get to live happily and raise children and be the father he hoped he could be to his own children someday...it would've felt more full circle, especially since Jack's consistent theme was he will always find a way, and it not feel plot contrived when he does......as where him losing Ashi, WHEN he lost her, long after Aku was destroyed, DID feel contrived.

Will never happen and I don't want it to happen. Grendy did a great thing. The ending felt off, but regardless of the reasons for it, the series as a whole was in the authors vision and was solid all the way up to that point , at least. It'd be wasteful and insulting to change EVERYTHING just to accommodate that.
That's where fan-fictioners come in.
Or....continuations perhaps....i wouldn't put it past him.

Honestly? I would prefer if Jack never went back in time. It would be bittersweet in that Jack can never go back home and change the future but he and all his friends would now start rebuilding the world without Aku's influence.

Aulthar In reply to Danielle-van-Blood [2017-05-31 00:56:35 +0000 UTC]
and you could certainly put a bittersweet ending there too -
Jack kills Aku in the future, and realizes he *can't* ever go back home.
His parents appear (presumably in ghost form), saying "Jack*, it's okay. You can let go of us..." (just imagine hearing that from your parents....)
Jack: "But i-"
Parents: "You've built yourself a new family, a new world..." [we pan to see the Woolies, Archers, Dogs, Ravers, etc] "It's only right you stay and live here."
Jack gets in one last goodby, and looks upon his new post-aku world, unsure of what comes next....
[or, however that would all go down...]
* this would be a good opportunity to hear his real name; as I doubt they would call him "Jack".

Thanks. All due respect to the writers (and God knows they had to cut lots of stuff with the limit on episodes) but the way Jack suddenly shouted "Ashi, you have Aku's Powers!" followed by Ashi opening a time portal? That seemed so forced to me. I also like to think that the version I suggested would be the idea of leaving your past behind and moving forward. In my mind, Jack is already too far ahead of his time and, if he were to go back, would be an alien among his people. If he were to stay, it would show that he no longer can hit the Reset Button but has the courage to face whatever challenges are ahead.

Thanks. We have the same idea and opinion towards the whole Reeset Button thing that was used, don't we? If there is one thing I liked about the season was the opportunity to explore the idea of moving on and towards the future. If the story ended that way, I think, it would ne still bittersweet in the way that Jack's people are forever dead and he is stuck in the world mostly corrupted by Aku BUT he now has all his friends by his side who will help him make things right.

It is interesting and avoids the unnecessary bittersweet asspull but, honestly, I don't see much difference from the canon finale overall. Essentially, it all happens the same way but with a happier ending. No offense.

I meant it to do so, this wasn't to be drastically different, just use more elements of the show and it's previous arcs and world factors to come to an end that at least felt believable to the series.
I have no doubt a more bittersweet and fulfilling version exists, this was my stab at bringing it to an end that....still had the gravity of Jack's action but still ended happily like another series (my favorite) where in it is filled with sorrow, loss, and tragedy , but the hero comes out gaining rather than losing: FMA brotherhood, which could easily have had a tragic ending.
Also more attention is drawn to what Jack will do if he kills Aku and what he's risking, regardless of if his plan to bring her back even works, and that Ashi's at peace with it.

The sad thing is, Genndy flat out told everyone in the beginning. That the ending was gonna be bittersweet. And to be fair, he didn't have a lot of episodes to work with. So it's only natural that it would be a bit underwhelming.
Having said that, great story. It was really great.
