Description
I got a ridiculoooouuuus amount of requests for a tutorial like this even though there are tons more extensive ones out there.. well here it is anyway. It's very basic and (I hope) easy to follow.Any questions, of course you just ask.

Great tutorial, but I dont suppose there's
an easy trick to fill it with colour for colouring?
The only method I know is selecting the areas with
magnetic lasso tool and save that selection or
put it on a new layer. Or mask it.
Work work work ^^

no you have to stop doing that with the easy trick. Good art = take your time and stive for quality.
Here is how you lay down flats >> [link] that's the fastest way that makes sense.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not the easy trick guy. I merely get the feeling that sometimes I invest too much time in brute-force trial and error, where there might exist a more convenient solution to the task I struggle with.
"strive for quality" yeaaah I'm gonna do dat :]

I have been trying to clean up a pencil line art drawing for days by tracing over it. This was so much easier! Thank you!

I read and reread everything, I think I am missing something Crys, whatever color i use, it is muted, it doesn't show up at 100 opacity like yours does.... what could I be missing?

Dunno at all, probably your brush isn't 100% on flow or opacity? or your lineart itself isn't so strong?

yea I noticed the new layer was a but transparent, does it have to be completely black?

OneFreeInternet In reply to thelearningcurv [2009-07-08 13:00:42 +0000 UTC]
the new layer? not sure what you mean, the new layer should be transparent, while the lines selection you fill should be 100% opaque.

Stop making pwning tutorials.
They pwn deviantART too much that they might go bankrupt just because it's too good.
It's so well put together that it's win has overcome me as a human being.
Thank you for this tutorial <3

I usually just copied the background layer & multiply but I like this, the tutorials I have come across always seemed complicated. This was simple to understand not much to read. I wanna try this!!!
Appreciate the tutorial, thanx for the help!!

Awesome tut and very helpful. The only thing is that in the 4th row of images, you spelled seelcton instead of selection. Just thought I'd let you know so you could fix the typo.

In Photoshop when you right-click text, when its selected, you can get the option to check spelling.
Hope that helps!

sceltrix In reply to OneFreeInternet [2009-07-08 13:03:05 +0000 UTC]
Well you can select the text layer, then go to edit menu. The check spelling should be there.

Nice tutorial. That's a much quicker way to select the lineart than i had found. Old tutorial i found had 11 steps to get that far.
I'm definitely trying this next time.
