So, given that we've got another Godzilla to look forward to, and another King Kong, AND they're both coming from Legendary...well, as I mentioned in my journal how could King Kong vs Godzilla NOT come to mind? I just did this up pretty quickly, but it was an idea I liked that would set things up. Obviously, King Kong is dead, and died about 80 years too soon, and was way too small to actually pose a threat to Godzilla (though, having said that, I would like to see King Kong scaling Godzilla like a mountain). So this was my workaround.Going by the King Kong artbook (or whatever you wanna call it), Skull Island, being very geographically unstable, sunk around the time of WW2. So, by the time Godzilla is discovered, and they decided to check out the island...it's sunk. Oh well. They forget about it. But I imagine that, given that Godzilla establishes that there were a ton of giant monsters around in prehistoric times, there could have been a race of giant, Godzilla-sized apes. They could have settled around what would become Skull Island, and their descendants shrunk down to Kong-level sizes. All you need now is one of those gigantic ancient apes to survive, be awakened, and..bam! King Kong vs Godzilla!
Also, I totally meant to give Serizawa an eyepatch for fun, but I forgot about it. Oh well.

Your work on this setup was trully magnificent. Not only did your comic bonded the storys in a wonderfull and logical way, but it also menaged to exsite and stimulate the imagination of the viewer. Bravo to you man! You're setup cloud be used for the actual movie.

What if Godzilla 2 built up to the coming of king ghidorah, then Godzilla 3 had Ghidorah destroying Skull Island and forcing Kong to swim to the mainland where he fights Godzilla, but then fights along side him when Ghidorah shows up.
One thing that would be off about a new KkvsG in the Legendary series is that this Godzilla is sort of a benevolent hero, where the Godzilla from the original was a menace. Seems like they would have to team up against a greater foe so they both can remain heroes.

I have the official Legendary "Godzilla Awakening" prequel comic to the movie.
There are some panels that show several monsters held in Monarch labs. You see a strange plant creature and also some shelled organism like them prehistoric giant shells.
What else do you see? In the background, there is a giant roaring ape. And this particular panel was set in 1954 or so. So there is another giant ape well after Kong's death and the sinking of the island.
Also while reading a bit on the new Kong movie, it might be set during the 50's as well. Quite a nice touch to the comic there.
I found the page while typing this comment! On this forum thread, scroll down to the bottom and there is the picture that shows the Kong like creature. Interestingly he looks similar to the older King Kong designs compared to the 2005 one.

Thank you! I felt the same way myself, so I wanted to come up with a scenario that made more sense than "King Kong is inexplicably giant and also not dead."
