Description
A speculation as to how the Opera Ghost's mother may have looked according to the mantle portrait described in Susan Kay's ' ' Phantom'.I had always imagined her to look very stark. As if that quality was sort of passed down through the family. She is obviously of societal breeding, as per the depiction of her character's frivolous behavior. Therefore the velvet 1830's styled dress. I would imagine that this portrait would have been taken shortly before 1831.

She looks really depressed, like she's had the hardest time raising a disfigured boy.

His birth heralded the end of her otherwise charmed life. I'd say that she was less than pleased overall.

Wonderfully done. You captured her character so well. The pinched lips and haunted eyes are perfect!

Thank you very much!
She's such a wonderfully awful character, I've wanted to draw her for awhile.

I'm sorry but I have to disagree with this interpretation, wonderful as the actual portrait is. Erik's mother is supposed to be young and beautiful and is supposed to look like Christine. Of course, that all changes when Erik is older but a portrait of her would have been before that I'm sure.
Nice job though. I would love to see your Christine.

Well, my Christine can be seen in the older parts of my gallery.
I must defend my interpretation on the grounds that my Christine does have a similar countenance. The difference between my versions of the two are the hair color and expression.

It's a lovely image, and the little details in her costume serve to balance out her severe expression.

Yeah, I think that the black and white certainly added to the severity more than I had hoped. I suppose that my rationalization was that the old standard expression for photos was usually pretty severe....or dead ::smirks::
Thanks!

Lol, you've got a point there. Then again - I imagine it would be rather irksome to have to hold a beaming smile for like a minute or so while the old fashioned cameras did their work.
